Students in Canberra’s south will be able to explore careers in hospitality, horticulture, construction and the automotive industry with the opening of a new trade training centre in Canberra’s south.
ACT Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch today took part in the opening of the $8.1635 million Tuggeranong Sustainable Learning Trade Training Centre, based at Erindale College.
The centre, funded by the previous Federal Government, includes Calwell High School, Caroline Chisholm School, Lake Tuggeranong College, Lanyon High School, Wanniassa School Senior Campus and Namadgi School.
“This impressive centre will make a huge difference to the lives of many students in Tuggeranong, giving them the opportunity to start their careers with Certificate I and II qualifications and units of competency at Certificate III,” Ms Burch said.
“The Trade Training Centre will help us address national and local skills shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries, while increasing the proportion of our students who achieve Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.
“The ACT Government understands how important it is to help young people make a successful transition from school to work or further education or training.
“The upgrades, extensions and refurbishments across the campuses will ensure that this centre will become a vocational hub for the local and broader Canberra community, and that our students get the best start in life.”
