The Canberra Times is bringing down the curtain on the Degas exhibition

Apparently the National Gallery has broken even, 153,000 punters have seen the pretty ballerinas first hand, and $30.3 million has been pumped into the local economy.

Gallery director Ron Radford said the exhibition, which cost $6million to stage, had exceeded the target set for visitors, would break even for the gallery and had contributed significantly to the ACT economy. With 70per cent of the visitors coming from interstate and overseas the estimated economic contribution to the ACT was $30.3million.

No official word yet on what the next one will be.

So they’ve finally turned off Degas supply.

Pity about the $1 million spent on a picture of a woman wiping her bum on a bidet. Of all the truly amazing Degas art, why choose that one??

It’s Soft Sculpture opening on the 24th of April.
But the next big show is about the Ballets Russes…
