ACT Policing is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying two men who forced their way into a home in Ngunnawal last night (Tuesday, February 21).

About 10 pm the residents were woken by loud banging at the front door. One of the residents approached the front door and saw two men wearing dark clothing with black scarves wrapped around their heads and carrying firearms.

The two men forced their way through the locked front door, pointing their guns at the male resident and demanding money.

The offenders left a short time later with a small amount of cash, three wallets and a laptop computer.

Anyone who may have been in the area of Ngunnawal about 10 pm last night and saw suspicious activity, or who may be able to assist police with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I don’t find it very likely that it was a random attack. Surely the perpetrators know there was an amount of cash or something worthwhile inside that house. Either that or there was something on that computer they wanted. Seriously, what’s a stolen used laptop worth? Not worth committing gun crime that’s for sure. You’d make more money punching holes in the bottom of car petrol tanks in dark desolate carparks and stealing the fuel.

here here jazzyjess, makes me a little uneasy too, especially seeing as i was reading the neighbourhood watch pamphlet earlier today and it was saying crime is down across the board around here…

Do they want to be more specific than “Area of Ngunnawal”?

Even though i go there all the time, i have a mental picture of Ngunnawal being
essentially a large cul-de-sac with filled with overturned commodores, guvvy houses, burning wheelie bins and some sort of fuedal-bogan thing going on.

I’ve lived in Canberra for a few years now but I seldom go to that side. I thought it was a new trendy area? If it is new, how’d it get that way so quickly?

I don’t think Ngunnawal will ever be described as trendy, that said it is a massive suburb like Kambah, it has areas with million dollar homes and areas of three bedroom government housing.

Unusual/Suspicious things happen all the time around Ngunnawal..

On Monday Evening, I watched a car pull up outside my house, two plain clothes cops jump out and start questioning the two teenage kids that happened to be strolling by.

Then there’s the person(s) that let fireworks off at 2-3am.. I can only assume they’re fireworks anyway.
