Nice work if you can get it - Mick Gentleman's good little earner

The Canberra Times is moderately outraged that the backbench MLA from Tuggeranong, Mick Gentleman, has been drawing $10k a year to chair the select committee on working families.

Apparently set up to stick the boot into the Howard Government’s IR laws the committee has not been over-exerting itself, meeting for just 11 hours over the 2005-06 period.

The Assembly has voted to keep the committee going until October 2007.

She thinks you should spend more of your time volunteering.

Seriously, do we have a member of the Legislative Assembly called Mary Porter?

She is an intellectual vacuum.

I think Mary Porter (“The Phantom”) is from Ginninderra, but it’s hard to tell because she could be dead for all we know!

The candidates in Ginninderra are just as bad. Its more a matter of choosing who you least don’t want to get your vote than who you want to elect. Hardly surprising we get the dregs of the aspiring politicians, whats the pecking order for anyone with any actual ability ….federal MP > federal MP adviser > party official > federal public servant > …. > …. > ACT MLA.

they have secretarial staff to do the actual writing.

$1k / hour. Kind of ok… As long as they only expect you to sit in meetings. Anything requiring writing needs about $1.5K / hour.

$10k for 11 hours on the clock. Nice hourly rate there…i salute you!

Swaggie that is a sad group. Voting must be a shocker down your way. Although we has squeegie man and Mike someone, whose leaflet was full of apostrophes and said he was ‘a rocket scientist educated by jesuits!!!’.

In hindsight i wish i’d voted for both of them Couldn’t be worse than what we’ve got now, and it might’ve at least been entertaining.

I feel someone must defend Mr Gentleman – he ws just in the right place at the right time to reap the windfall from Stanhope’s grandstanding and pointless actions.

The MLA with arguably the lowest possible profile ever. It must be something in the water down here that gives us the worst candidates for MLAs – Hargreaves, Pratt, Gentleman, Smyth although the most inept one was the Liberal candidate in the last election who produced the worst election leaflet ever seen – so full of spelling and bad grammar it was an embarrassment. Thankfully she never got elected.

can you see the little piggies…

This is what happens when people vote for single issue idiots.

And he still hasn’t gotten the dragway yet!

Who needs the concept of a minimum wage when you can get jobs like that from your mates…
