Nicole Lawder's maiden speech

The Liberals have sent through the maiden speech of their Zed replacing Tuggers MLA Nicole Lawder (elected by just an 8 vote margin).

Interestingly she’s going very hard on homelessness and the obscene cost of housing in the ACT.

According to the Australians for Affordable Housing campaign, child care workers, electricians, accountants, hospitality workers, school teachers, and many other occupations in Canberra are in housing stress, meaning that they have to spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs.

And cleaners, delivery drivers, check out operators and many other occupations are considered to be in housing crisis, spending more than 50% of their income on housing.

And then, intriguingly, she goes on to demand parking be considered a fundamental business of local government with roads, rates and rubbish.

I like her already.

Accountants are in housing stress?

It’s a statistical definition in terms of the proportion of their income.

Great to see Libs expressing compassion instead of economic rationalism.

Accountants are in housing stress?

Affordable housing and homelessness have long been passions of Nicole’s. Good on her.
