Night Markets at Smiths

Last night was the second Night Market held in Smiths Alternative Bookshop (Alinga St, Civic, in the Melbourne Building).

On all your behalves I went along to have a look.

Well, it’s kind of fun.

The crowd is mostly very pretty, very hip, very young women. And the boys who want to be in their vicinity.

Not being a hip young woman I can’t really speak to the merchandise that was on offer.

But I can say that sitting down at a table called Kerouac with a beer and watching proceedings was a delight.

Nothing quite sums the vibe of the place up quite as much as that at one point I noticed an attractive young woman 100 metres away wearing a long diaphanous dress and riding a bicycle.

“She’s coming here,” I said to a friend.

And she was.

The markets are intended to be held monthly, and I understand they’re open to more exhibitors. If you want to get hooked up I suggest making friends with the store on Facebook.

Your interpretation of very pretty is clearly different to mine

I look forward to seeing a pic of the dame in diaphanous gear. Preferably well backlit.

– Like Kerouac, that would turn me into a real gone cat.

he is as far from a hip young female as i have ever encountered.

Ahh.. but likes to get close to them.

Sounds great! And yay for diaphanous!

Yeah a fan of gratuitous. Then again I did have to look up diaphanous in the dictionary.

Yeah, a little less gratuitous talk about the female eye-candy, and a bit more about the actual wares on offer would be nice (you may not be a “hip young female” but surely you can see what they’re selling?)

Thanks for the event heads-up all the same.

I for am very interested now. Very informative.

was there a nice open fire, jb? apart from its positive effect on select evening companions, it would be an appropriate place to commit those volumes inside with which david hume would not agree…

and a table called kerouac. did it make you beat it? (badly named, being on the footpath and all…)
