Nightclubbing 13 year old busted unconscious

The ABC is aghast the level of underage drinking police have uncovered around town.

An ACT Police campaign against underage drinking in licensed premises has found an 13-year-old girl unconscious on a couch in city bar.

They have highlighted the case of the 13-year-old as an ‘appalling’ example but also report finding 27 underage people in a Tuggeranong pub last saturday night.

Suddenly axing the Liquor Licensing Board doesn’t look so clever does it?

(There is, on the other hand, a great deal one can do about underaged customers being served alcohol in licensed establishments).

Where did it say anything about “late at night” or “11pm or later” in the original article?

And I think you are massively underestimating the ingenuity of the average 13 year old if you think that they aren’t capable of being in one place when their parents think they’re in another, late at night or otherwise. Short of keeping them locked under the stairs, there’s not a great deal anyone can do to change that.

Back when this kind of thing didn’t seem quite so rampant, the average parent would touch base with the parents hosting that homework bee or slumber party or whatever it was, just to check everything was OK. Low key, but cautious.

ah – you see ant, they probably did think they knew where there child was.

ant, do you really mean to say that when you were 13 you weren’t capable of getting up to things your parents didn’t know about?

er, at 13, if I’d been out at 11pm or later, and arrived home at some weird time stinking of alcohol, I suspect there’d have been some significant activity before and during on their part.

caf, do you really think that it’s acceptable for parents to be allowing 13 year olds to be out late at night, not knowing where they are?

What always bugged me was that as an underager I’d get into clubs/pubs, get served drinks for a couple of hours, get drunk and then around midnight when we were well and truely sloshed, the same people that had let us in and not been fazed about us drinking earlier, would then ask for our ID and when we were found to be underage they’d kick us out.
It used to annoy me because they were the ones that ‘irresponsibly’ served us drinks (didn’t mind that bit so much as) – then once determining that we were underage and not therefore not deemed mature enough to drink – they kick your completly wasted butt out on the streets.

Prolly because they haven’t determined how negligent the club was yet. The article doesn’t say how she got in, how long she was there, and if she’d been served alcohol at the premises.

I wonder what the drunken 13 year old parents were thinking? Or not thinking….

I was just musing on the same thing. All these kids out around Canberra, doing bad things and making life less pleasant for everyone, presumably they are not from the orphanage, presumably they have parents. Why are they not doing their jobs as parents?

This kid (and the others) aren’t necessarily doing anything to harm others, just themselves, but if they can be going out and getting legless, they could be doing anything.

Same with me Thumper (btw, thanks for making me feel old B@$%!^D) By 13 we were doing all that and worse. My experience with the cops were similar too, with one or two notable exceptions

I wonder what the drunken 13 year old parents were thinking? Or not thinking….

probably, ‘i wonder how my wonderful little being is doing with friends at the homework bee she is studying hard at – hope they’re also having fun…’

Does anyone seriously think the parents care in this girls case.

My bets on using a poor upbringing as a reason for serious crimes in years to come.

all that happened was she was busted having drunk too much in a nightclub.

drinking at 13 is hardly an indicator for committing serious crimes later in life.
My friends and I used to drink at that age.
And NONE of us (from that group) are out committing crimes nowadays.

Happens all the time I hear.

You think that they knew?

Special G…. she was a bouncer having a rest and her lemonade was spiked?

They were really just looking after her welfare. She was out the front had been drinking and they thought better she’s inside than in the gutter. sounds plausible.

… and that’s why you’re slightly overweight and don’t want to go anywhere! (that might take you too far from the table).

Liquor Licensing laws in the ACT are a total joke.

I have heard that one very unsavoury watering hole in Tuggeranong paid some of their more desperate regulars free alcohol at the establishment to lie at court and support the license holders regarding a breach of Liquor Licensing law in 2008. Some of the breaches, I have heard, were serving shots, operating without a license and responsible service of alcohol breaches. Not that I know any of the facts. Just something I heard. It may not be factual. I have only heard this. However I believe it.

Probably the ojo bar or whatever it’s called these days. I think it’s been caught with underagers about 5 or so times now.

You drank at 13 Thumper? 13???? Geez, I must have lead a sheltered life!

When is the little cow going to buy her folks a round of drinks.

have you seen some of these teenagers? they slap on a pile of make up, dress like a hooker, bigger boobs than most adults and they’re in.

and thats the boys…

i jest… but some 13 year olds could easily pass as 18.

27 bar-flies in one go. Even the little tailor would be jealous of that.

I wonder what the drunken 13 year old parents were thinking? Or not thinking….

Agree with JB. Licensing has been a pathetic joke in the ACT for years now. However I know the government is moving….just last year they made it illegal to spike a persons drink. We can all breathe easier non?

I was on a Tuggeranong Valley bus on Sunday & we had a few 15 or so year olds who stank of alcohol.

But I have been told that in certain areas of Sydney, the Police turn a blind eye to underage drinking. This is done because if the Police get strict, they may have riots on their hands from a range of ages. So by letting it go on, the public order is kept to a reasonable level. But while saying that, they know who buys them the alcohol & who are the underage drinkers & they try & get those people in gaol through those same people breaking other laws. It is just that judges think that these culprits are good little boys/girls & that butter wouldn’t melt in their mouth.

Doesn’t surprise me. The city bars are easy to get into before the bouncers get on deck – 5-6pm.

I used to be able to get in at 15. But I was playing senior cricket in country Victoria at the time so it was kind of allowed, if not legal..

@ 15 I was built like brick S***house and could get in anywhere – now I’m slight overweight and don’t want to go anywhere.

Yeah, I know that’s gonna come…I should stop eating these corn chips now…

I once saw an under-age duck that may have been drunk …

Deadmandrinking6:47 pm 26 May 09

I got in a few times at 15, but f-k, that’s good.

How the hell does a 13 year get into a licensed venue !? I dont know any 13 yrs old that would even pass for 18+

i thought you were the stig..? ; )

like the ironic ambiguity in the thread topic, too, jb. noice.

Oh, and before I forget.

I’m the girl in the OP.

Why isn’t the club named and shamed in the article?

“She was subsequently dealt with and the matter is, and action has been taken against her.”

Did she get drunk outside the club and then come inside for somewhere to nap?
