No GST distribution submission from the ACT

The Liberals’ Zed Seselja is having a lot of fun with the failure of the ACT to get a submission into the GST Distribution Review.

This despite arguing our case for a piece of the pie being essential to the Territory’s revenues.

We understand that, like a befuddled student, an extension has been sought and granted.

Add to that the $millions Barr gave the AFL (Now, what did he actually pay for there ?) I think his incompetence is getting too big to hide even in this government.

And for all those wanting to turn up to the ACT Treasury Public Accounts debacle, by way of preparatory reading, their annual report is available here:
http://treasury.act.gov.au/documents/Treasury%20Annual%20Report%202010-11%20Vol%201%20FINAL%20(1).pdf

The link on their website is, …well, um… broken; meaning no one can access their Annual Report the week it’s being considered in the Leg Assembly.

Sooooo professional.

Treasury is appearing at Estimates at 2.00 pm this Thursday (24 November 2011). Should be a sellout, for all the wrong reasons.

Let’s see if Zed and Smyth can get a scalp.

I don’t comment on here all that often any more, but just felt obliged to add to the overwhelming chorus here.

Are these guys for real? Didn’t I read elsewhere that we have around 18k ACTPS employees, and we still cant get the *most* important thing right?

Not just missed the deadline but missed by a month (and counting). Clearly the government doesn’t think its important to get its hands on this money.

Heads should roll for this. I notice Barr previously told the Assembly it had been lodged. So he’s either bullshitting or incompetent or the Treasury has not told him or bullshitted him. There are a lot of sacking offences in that lot. Not to mention whoever is responsible for this in Treasury who should be given the arse for their shit project management.

But no-one will suffer any adverse consequences, except us taxpayers who no doubt will get screwed over because those paid to advocate the ACT’s case couldn’t be stuffed doing it.

bullshitter and incompetent id say.
probably too busy mucking around with his gay marriage “stuff”, you know , the real important “stuff”.

…….and he can still find $500K from his “special events fund” to give to the NGA to promote their forthcoming blockbuster which seems to have been gazzumped by the excellent liftout in the CT promoting the NSW Art Galleries Picasso exhibition.
Is Andrew Barr related to Wayne Swan by any chance as they both masquerade as treasurers; also make promisies in the mornings and apologies/spin in the afternoon.
Gallagher must sack this clown now.

While I think Barr has stuffed up, you are discounting the real possibility that ACT Treasury has just totally f*&ked up and plainly misled Barr. Sackings yes, Barr maybe.

He collects a nice salary for “being accountable”. He was obviously asleep at the wheel to let this happen. He simply has to go – a resignation would be appropriate.

Al, I disagree – If the Treasurer, Andrew Barr, misled the Assembly by stating “It was lodged recently . . . . it’s been through Cabinet and approved” there’s only one scalp that is needed – Barr’s.

There is form too.

After our last Meet the Candidates meeting, we found briefing papers left behind by a certain ALP minister where the Treasury were updating them on whether the looming GFC would affect their ability to deliver on their election promises. They were advising that it wouldn’t. This was just a month before the worst of the GFC hit.

And then there are the quarterly “oops we messed the budget up and have a huge problem so we’re going to have to slash more services” announcements. Usually they involve yawning holes of $70m or more. Making this quarter’s announcement yesterday of just a $10.5m stamp duty shortfall (about 10%) look rather accurate: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/act-budget-dips-for-september-quarter/2360764.aspx?src=rss

I love Andrew Barr’s attempt to spin it as a positive: ‘‘Total expenses were in line with the year to date budget.” Well Andrew the reason they call it double-entry accounting is because there are two sides to the ledger. Having expenses tracking to budget doesn’t count for squat if the income side of the P&L is shot to hell.

They also count about $60m pa of superannuation earnings as revenue from government operating activities to plug the disaster. Auditor-General anyone?

They should outsource local government to the nearby councils (Quangers, Palerang and Goulburn Mulwaree),they’d do a better job and be a darn sight cheaper, too.

Just completed a rofl-copter.

it’s suddently clear why other jurisdictions have such high regard for ACTgov/ps.

Head of ACT Treasury should be sacked. And not just because of this.

You really have to wonder about this Treasury Dept…
Andrew Barr should be hunting scalp over this.

Well I’ll be! The bugger’s right! They’ve failed project management 101 again. I think this is the second time I’ve agreed with one of his public statement. Don’t often agree with the Grebor side either though.
