ACT Policing seized a replica handgun after executing a firearms search warrant on a house in Theodore Tuesday (3 May).

Around noon on Tuesday, detectives from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations team searched the house and found a replica handgun, an electrical incapacitant (taser-like device) and an amount of ammunition.

The four residents of the share house are currently helping police with their enquiries, and investigations are ongoing.

At this time no charges have been laid.

Police are urging anyone who has any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

You could buy cola flavoured icypoles.

They don’t sell cola icypoles? WTF?

True, They are going to get rid of red ones next because of lacking sales. Got this from the Peters Frozen Delivery guy. Cola went years ago because of ingredient costs.

I carry a pocket knife.
And i actually think that you would have a legitimate use for it too, difference between 30+ and youth.

However i am happy that these Tuggeranumpties have been done.

Bonus points for the term “Tuggeranumpties”. I initially miss read it as Tugganaughts.

It sounded better than thalidomanongs.

One must also consider that they were found with a quantity of ammunition along with the replica gat.

There is a significant black market in refurbishing innocuous weapons as it is easier to get your hands on a deactivated handgun and do a dodgy home job with parts acquired from overseas than it is to get the real thing (either legitimately, through a black market purchase or knocking over the house of a gun owner and carrying away a very heavy safe).

The upside is that a dodgy refurb job has the potential to end with the bad guy in a world of hurt as his barrel explodes or some similar catastrophe.

Personally I am always a little torn between the part of my brain that hates over regulation by the government restricting my freedom of choice to do what I damn please, and the part of my brain that likes living in a safe city and country.

I personally believe that we are wrapped in too much cotton wool.

There was a time when:
We used to be able to buy PoHa’s at the Milk Bar (Remember them?).
Porn was something that you had to go out of your way to get.
An Air rifle was not considered a firearm.
You could buy cola flavoured icypoles.
You could carry a pocketknife without being branded a psycho.
There was discipline in schools.
People were charged appropriatly for crimes they committed and could not use BS excuses like being an aboriginal lesbian when it is irrelevant to the case.
You knew a judge would do their job properley.
Slapbands…Nuff said.

We are a society that is becoming overly “safe” from the real world. However i am happy that these Tuggeranumpties have been done.

Theatre productions and movie makers have legitimate need of replica weapons.

Although one wonders if a central repository wouldn’t work better for everyone.

There are companies which specialise in providing such things to the TV/movie/theatre industry. They have to hold gun licences and follow the correct storage laws too.

Why is it that you get a harsher sentence for having a replica than you would for having a real one? Seems really disproportionate that you can get 15 years for a fake and up to 5 years for a real one.

Is this true? My understanding was the Replica guns come under exactly the same laws as real firearms in Australia (requiring licensing and proper storage etc), and so would result in the same punishment as a unregistered gun. Perhaps because they often don’t carry unique serial numbers? (which is a requirement for legally owned guns).

1. Why have a replica gun?

In other countries the reason is that you can have all the joy of collecting things (and people like to collect all sorts of whacky crap), without the inconvenience of legal restrictions, or the dangers of guns. In Australia there is no advantage at all.

2. How did it come to police attention that there was a gun on premises?

That is always an interesting question when someone gets raided.

Alarm bells are ringing………

1. Why have a replica gun?

I can hear the “thuggies thuggies thuggies” chant in the background
