The ABC brings word that a new “Central Intake Service for Homelessness”, to be known as “First Point”, will be guaranteeing no homeless person turned away in the ACT.
“First Point will operate on the basis of a no turnaway principle. This means that every homeless person who makes contact will receive a service response,” she said.
Homeless people will be able to access the service from Monday to Saturday via a freecall hotline or at Housing ACT in Belconnen.
The service will be managed by Canberra’s Fathers and Children’s Service who won an open tender.
One can only hope they don’t get overwhelmed by the couch surfers who to date haven’t shown up in many official numbers.
