No more strippers at Summernats

Summernats have made the national news via AAP, with the announcement there will no longer be any strip shows at the famous car event.

This is after cancelling the wet T-shirt competition in 2010.

Good news for those wanting a more family-orientated event and bad news for those who like a bit of flesh with their cars. Good news for the adult industry in Canberra which has had the latter’s business referred to them.

What would Chic think?!

It seems they are still there, just maybe remaining a little more clothed than in previous years. So I am told anyway.

No longer any reason to go to Summernats then.

Agreed. I never thought there was any reason to go in the first place. Now that they’ve removed the only reason most people went (admit it), it will wither and die. That can only be a good thing.

Are you serious…

Deadly, I will not rest until everyone is as happy as I am, and I’m a miserable git

Dumb move from ‘Nats.

Year after year we hear how Summernats “is now family friendly”, and year after year no-one is buying it. Instead of fooling themselves by thinking they can make money from everyone, why not just accept that the customer demographic is bogan trash and cater accordingly?

I tend to agree with this thinking. Summernats is barely family friendly at the best of times (which would be before ten in the morning). It certainly isn’t in the evening after the fireworks and cars-crashing-into-buses have finished. Personally, I think getting rid of the strip show might well increase the amount of harassment to show-us-your-tits that females (and big breasted males) currently attract.

Having said that, I have been to the ‘gnats a handful of times, and only once have I seen any of the stripshow, and that year I was working there.

This is the thin end of the wedge. They’ve taken away the strippers – next they’ll take away the beer and the burnouts and then there’ll be absolutely nothing left!

There seem to be a large number of big bodybuilders with Summernats cars and among the spectators, perhaps they can replace the strippers with a bodybuilding contest. I’ve always thought the strippers and tattoo show to be a bit low-brow and catering to the wrong element.

Have you been to Summernats? … I dont really think a bodybuilding comp would go down well.

And for those wishing it will wither away and die? … I hardly think so, from all accounts there appears to be close to or in excess of 1700 entrants this year, … well above the 1400 or so from last year

Um, when I used to go to the Nats it was to look at the cars. I didnt really hang around long enough to see the strippers considering they were part of the late night entertainment and not a feature of the rest of the event.

Doesn’t really matter as there tends to be a number of females who are more than happy to flash their tits cruising around in cars to the approval of the drunken yobs

We call these people ‘ladies’…

Ixnay on the knockerz?…Whats the use of turning up??

Oh the bitter disappointment. I guess I will just have to drive three minutes down the road for my stripper fix now.

But they’re the only reason I go!

Excellent news. Still wont keep the bogans away though. Only winning thing to do is cancel the entire event.

The Summernats will never be the darling of the so-called “City Fathers” who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about “What’s to be done with these risque strip shows”?
(Thankyou Homer)

I’ll take the Hilltop Hoods over strippers any day.
