No new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours but health officials are urging Canberrans to stay vigilant and continue complying with social distancing rules, including staying home this Easter.
The ACT’s total remains at 103, including 62 patients who have recovered from COVID-19 and been released from self-isolation. There have been two deaths.
There are four COVID-19 patients in Canberra hospitals. The remainder are isolating at home with ACT Health support.
Three cases are under investigation and further test results are required to confirm their status.
This includes a Canberra Hospital ICU nurse’s close contact, who has recently returned from overseas.
The number of negative tests in the ACT is now more than 6100, after testing was widened.
Acting ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Vanessa Johnston acknowledged and thanked Canberrans for their efforts in helping flatten the curve but reminded the community that it needs to continue the good work to protect vulnerable people.
“As I have said all this week, please stay home this Easter long weekend. Do not travel to the coast or interstate or gather in large groups with family and friends,” Dr Johnston said.
“If you do need to go out for essential reasons, then complying with the rules on physical distancing and practicing good hand and respiratory hygiene are the most important tools in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
“I also encourage Canberrans to find new ways to connect with their loved ones over this Easter period. People all around the world are using technology to stay socially connected during this pandemic and this can be a great way to keep in touch with your family and friends when you can’t physically visit.”
