Fletcher Jones

According to the Property Observer, Canberra’s favourite abandoned suit-store, Fletcher Jones, went to auction and nobody bought it.

Let’s all chip in and buy it for You Are Here.

I’m impressed that an area which can be quite grotty and off-putting when you’re actually there can be made to look so fresh, and shiny and appealingly Mediterranean in a pic – and yet no one was sucked in by it.

RiotACT offices and new live music venue?

Well I guess they’ve gotta do something with the piles of money. I guess there’s only so many times Johnboy can dive into it scrooge mcduck style before getting bored.

You Are Here would be FANTASTIC but I’ll be happy as long as it’s not another McDonalds/

I still remember going in there with my Dad when I was a kid around the late 70s sometime and watching him being fitted up for a new suit. It was awesomely grown up and serious mens business.

I think he still has the suit too. 🙂

And so this closes another chapter in the history of Canberra…

I fear to make this inquiry but will it be replace with another Scottish Restaurant?

Are the mannequins still in there, with their strangely bereft bottoms?

No I didn’t.

Hahahaha

That’s a good thing. Imagine if you had bought it, the headline could have/of been “Somebody bought Fletcher Jones” and thus completely false…

No I didn’t.

Surprised that the Snow family didn’t snap it up. After all it is their heritage site, rather than the airport – Snow’s Manchester and haberdashery etc. I used to love the spring loaded cash/ receipt system – wires strung out across the store with capsules whizzing along them. Far more exciting than J B Youngs, a few doors up, near Leo’s cafe and Ally Nish’s sports store.
