Women can do more to celebrate their achievements. That’s the message from Canberra Women in Business as they open nominations for their annual awards this week.

Canberra Women in Business President Peta Swarbrick says, “We need to join together and recognise some of the extraordinary businesswomen we have here in the ACT”.

“Women are often juggling busy lives while managing their business and they don’t see the amazing things they are achieving,” Ms Swarbrick said.

Canberra Women in Business is a vibrant not-for-profit association supporting women in business in the Canberra region. The CWB Awards are a highlight in the Canberra business community, recognising the valuable contributions and outstanding achievements of ACT businesswomen from all walks of life and all business areas.

“We have a range of award categories so that we can recognise women in different businesses from small start-ups to social enterprise,” Ms Swarbrick said.

“We increased the categories in 2018 and have added a category for Indigenous women this year.”

Nominations are open to CWB members and non-members. To streamline the process, nominations are online this year.

“You can nominate someone you know or nominate yourself. Women are not good at talking about themselves for fear of appearing arrogant, but it is time to put that aside and support each other.”

Once nominations are received, the nominee will be invited to accept the nomination and fill out an online questionnaire.

“If you do get nominated, don’t dismiss it! At the very least, complete the criteria and use it as a personal audit. You will likely be amazed at what you have achieved,” Ms Swarbrick suggested.

The CWB panel of judges comes from small business, media, corporate, marketing and not-for-profit sectors.

“It is all about the recognition. Recognition is where the magic happens. When women look around and see that others recognise what they are doing, a whole world of possibilities opens up. That is what I love about Canberra Women in Business and these annual awards.”

After sponsoring the Innovation award last year, Rubik3 strategic business solutions is now the CWB Awards major sponsor for 2019. Rubik’s Nadia Pessarossi is excited to be a part of this year’s awards.

“The finalists last year were so inspiring. The Canberra Women in Business Awards recognise some of the amazing women in business in Canberra that people don’t know about. We encourage people to nominate any women who are in business in Canberra,” Ms Pessarossi said.

To make a nomination, start by browsing the categories on the Canberra Women in Business nomination site. Nominations close on 10 October 2019. Nominees will be contacted and given further steps to complete their awards application. Finalists will be announced on 21 October, with the Awards Night held on 7 November at a gala event at the National Arboretum.
