Motorists are being told to expect delays along Northbourne Avenue as lane closures and speed reductions between Macarthur Avenue in O’Connor and Mouat Street in Lyneham start from 6:00 am Monday (17 August).

Reduced speed limits of 40km/h will be in place for the duration of the roadworks and motorists are being advised to use alternate routes where possible.

The majority of roadworks, which will remove the existing road pavement to conduct repairs to kerbing and stormwater drains then lay new pavement and road markings, will be done between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday to Friday, and 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays.

The on-road cycle lane will also be improved.

“This will require its closure for the duration of this project,” a Transport Canberra spokesperson said.

“During this time, cyclists will have the option of remaining on the road, noting there will be no designated cycle lane, or making use of the off-road footpath. Signage will be in place.”

Work will commence from the inside lane (closest to the light rail corridor), with only one lane of traffic open between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm and two lanes will be open outside of these hours.

During work hours Murdoch Street will be closed in both directions between Goodwin Street and Northbourne Avenue, and access will be provided to residents on this street and construction vehicles only.

The lane closures will last for about three months and all works are set to be completed by the end of the year.
