Notice board etiquette

I’ve been trying to sell piano and early childhood music lessons by posting bits of dead tree to very expensive concrete blocks and outside supermarkets. Yesterday while out postering I was a bit surprised and disappointed by what I would consider bad or at least unexpected notice board etiquette and I thought it might be fun to see what RiotACT commenters think.

Some people are very enthusiastic and hog the noticeboard with multiple enormous posters for the same event lined up next to each other. Were they being rude or just protecting themselves from people like me postering over their posters? Am I justified in going over duplicate posters when the notice board is full?

Then I also noticed that a few notice boards had already been cleared even though I’d only put up my poster two weeks before. Should shopkeepers clean their wall every week or two or should they just leave it to the archaeologists as appears to be the plan at the O’Connor shops? I would propose a convention between shopkeepers and government that the noticeboards all be cleaned at the same time monthly so that people with notices can put them back up once they’ve been taken down.

Does anyone even read noticeboards?

Sometimes I make up posters for fake events and put them up. I wonder how many people turn up?

I came across this the other day:

Posters will be removed once a month (not sure by who though?)

So, since we’re more than 1 month out from the election, this means all election crap should be removed from these silos, before the day arrives? I guess thats one way to find out if theres any commitment from government.

I remember reading somewhere, that its illegal to remove a political advertisement, even when it does break numerous laws which the public must follow but which political ads are exempt from.. for example the maximum number of posters displayed at any one time, which for the public is 20, no such laws for pollies.

However, two days later we were shocked that someone had placed a “Car for Sale” sign right over our sign. My sister was quite tempted to ring them up and give them a serving but eventually she calmed down.

Dog was found a week later , so all was well, but I thought it was very rude and incosiderate of people to cover up a lost dog sign that was clearly less than 2 days old.

Karma overtook your dogma.

If you see more than one poster, rip the lot out. Teach the sods to have some respect for others in the community.

they dont really care tbh, they’re paid to put as many posters up as possible, not how long they last.

Wonder if Guilia knows her prospective electorate doesn’t include Manuka?

Around this time last year, my sister’s dog went missing and we put signs up around at our local shops noticeboard, that stated the date the dog went missing. Being aware that we didn’t want to put anything up on top of someone else’s sign, we chose a sign that had all the phone number tickets ripped off already and the paper looked quite old and faded.

However, two days later we were shocked that someone had placed a “Car for Sale” sign right over our sign. My sister was quite tempted to ring them up and give them a serving but eventually she calmed down.

I noticed the same thing at the Manuka obelisk last week. The multiple, large offending posters were spruiking Guila with a G. Personally, I don’t think that plastering your face over the top of community notices is the best way to win votes from said community.

If you see more than one poster, rip the lot out. Teach the sods to have some respect for others in the community. If you can put yours in a spot where it allows previous posters to shine, if not available simply choose the oldest or daggiest to hide under your own.

The only way posters can be fairly controlled is in locked boards, other boards are fair game for anyone. But especially important to rip and destroy any and all instances of selfish mulitple posting that you find.

The people who hang up the event posters are usually paid. They don’t give a damn who they cover up.
