NRL leaders running scared of the Green Machine?

NRL.com has comments by Laurie Daley on the upset being caused by the Canberra Raiders in the last run in to the finals:

Should they take care of North Queensland as expected this weekend they still face a tough trip to Brisbane in the final round to secure a top-eight berth, but boasting the NRL’s biggest forward pack and the deadly duo of Josh Dugan and Terry Campese hitting top form, Daley told NRL.com today that they are the last side any of the competition favourites want to meet come finals time…

As I said, there are plenty of other sides you’d rather play.

Anyone want to predict where they’ll finish up?

I think Tooks is on the money – we will beat the Cowboys but will probs go down to the Broncs, if only because the refs always give Brisbane a lot of leeway at Suncorp. The NRL will really, really want Brisbane in the finals and will not be afraid of making a few things happen ref-wise to get them over the line.

Of course, I’m hoping we will make it to the finals though. Go you good thing!

What sort of a bullshit conspiracy theory is that?

Queenslanders know how to deal with big forward packs.

Look at the last few SOO’s, Qld’ers would put 3-4 men in every tackle, slowing the play down and killing any forward momentum while piling off quickly enough to not attract a penalty.

Either way, I think the Raiders have the goods to make the top five at least.

Its not entirely impossible for the Raiders to finish higher than 8th or for a few teams to be knocked out of the 8. But the Raiders are probably the only realistic side that can make the 8 that is not already in the 8.

The for and against diff between the Raiders and the Warriors and Brisbane, is only 47 points. So while it looks like the Raiders would need to win both games, a big win this weekend, could see them get close to FOR and against of the loser of the Warriors v Broncos game…. Either way we need a big win and want the loser of the Warriors Broncos game to have a big loss. That will help the Raiders 🙂

Apparently Lockyer is out for the rest of the season – which worsens the Broncos chances and improves the Raiders’. Thurston-less Cows then Lockyer-less Horses – if the Raiders don’t win both they don’t deserve to be in the finals.

Premiers.

Imagine that.

In my opinion, Raiders are the only team currently outside of the 8 who can still make it (Eels, Souths, Knights still mathematical chances).

They’ll beat the Cowboys this week and Broncos will lose to Warriors. In the final round, Broncos will beat Raiders and make it into 8th on for and against.

Raiders win vs Cowboys
Raiders win vs Broncos (The maroons having been smashed by the Warriors)

As a Raiders fan, 9th. They will lose to the Broncos in the final round home and away.
