Speaker Dunne has the thrilling news that we can now petition the Legislative Assembly online!

“Petitioning parliament has long been an avenue used by citizens to have their say and it has always been a feature of the ACT Legislative Assembly,” Mrs Dunne said.

“ACT residents will now be able to add their names to petitions from their PCs and mobile devices. Paper-based petitions will continue, of course, but e-Petitions will make it easier for Canberrans to have their say.

“Anyone interested in starting an online petition should contact a Member of the Assembly to sponsor the petition. When the wording is agreed, it is uploaded to the Assembly’s website. Residents then can add their names.

“Once the petition period closes, it is presented to the Assembly and forwarded to the relevant Minister, who then has three months to respond. The response will be published online for residents to view.

Requiring an MLA to sponsor the petition does seem to reduce the scope for fun.

We’re not quite in the 21st century either. You need to download and print a dead tree form from the epetition site.

So… not terribly electronic at all really. Although being able to sign up once the ball is rolling is something.

There is, however, handy list of MLA contact details.

lol e-petitions. Pretty much useless and has the same effectiveness as “liking” a cause on facebook.

Me Mum used to take me to the Cotter pub when I was a wee lad. ’twas my first exposure to fire-engine lemonade.

Would it be poor form to just spam all 17 addresses with a single email begging for a sponsor?

So I did indeed spam all seventeen addresses last night begging for a sponsor. So far the only response has been Katy Gallagher’s office declining the invitation, as “Unfortunately, the Chief Minister is not able to sponsor the proposed petition”.

Bring it on loved the cotter pub

I was up there recently and love what they have done with the picnic facilities.

I did mention to Mrs Alderney though how nice it would be to have the pub back.

Bring it on loved the cotter pub

I think I’ll try raising a petition to get the Cotter Pub rebuilt.

Would it be poor form to just spam all 17 addresses with a single email begging for a sponsor?
