NYE & restaurants

Fellow Rioters, myself and a few close friends are keen on going to a fairly nice restaurant for a food & drinks package on NYE but our efforts so far have only unveiled 2 options – Flint (in New Acton) and Benchmark (in Civic).

Hell even a nice restaurant that is open on NYE for a la carte may be the go at this stage. Any suggestions?

Before any smartypants hijack the thread – we are after somewhere mid-range or above (ie not Ainslie Football Club or Maccas) and yes we can all cook/sure your place is awesome, but that’s not what we were after. Thanks in advance!

thanks heaps everyone for the suggestions. checked out alto and it has a good menu (including vego options!) for $95 a head and drinks package is pretty reasonable on top of that, not to mention be worth it for the view otherwise sabayon would have been the winner (in terms of food quality).

A couple of years a go we tried desperately to find a restaurant open on New Years. So many were closed. The owners obviously make so much money that they can afford to be closed on one of the biggest nights of the year. It took us 2 hours to find a place and it ended up being Can Tho, a vietnamese place in Belco.

Try Lantern Rooms in Campbell?

I experienced a similar problem this year, I tried On Red (closed), Alto Tower (no response), and a few others without any luck. Funnily enough the OutinCanberra website’s “What’s On” page has a tab dedicated to NYE and when you go into it, it says “Sorry no results found”.

I was about to give up and settle for a very quiet night at home when I discovered that Sabayon in Civic is open for NYE dinner. They are having a set menu @ $90 per head, a copy of the menu is now available on their website:

you should cook something delicious yourself, mebbe get each other a cookbook for christmas and go from there? Or come to my place, it’d be awesome food…

sorry, couldn’t resist – but also second the lanterne rooms, campbell shops, if they’re going to be open. almost as awesome food as you’d have had at mine, if i invited you… otherwise, many places along woolley street dickson will be open – have a drive by and see what catches you eye..?

pistachio in torrens is doing a set menu with wine matches

ARdeche in civic used to be a nice NYE option.

After a quick search its called Alto, it looks like its still open altotower.com.au

Would suggest On Red but it’s not going to be open. Seems a bit strange given the great location. Sorry not helpful at all!

I really like Lantern Rooms in Campbell. Same people as Chairman and Yip.

We went to the Telstra Tower restaurant one year, very nice food and a great view of the fireworks, can be expensive but hey its NYE!

Is that place still open? The original owner sold it to an outfit which ran it down terribly and the last I’d heard was that it closed down.
