O in the Park cancelled

Subscribed to their mailing list, I received an email from Lexington Music yesterday announcing the cancellation of their next event ‘O in the Park’ being cancelled. It was meant to go ahead on Saturday 21 February. The email and website says:

It is with great regret that we advise the highly anticipated O in the Park 2009 Festival will not be going ahead.

In delivering a truly amazing location that has never been used for such an event, Friction & Lexington Music have encountered a wide range of operational difficulties that have meant we can no longer proceed with the event. As a result, representatives of both Lexington Music and Friction Event Management felt that if the show was to go ahead it would not meet the high standards expected by patrons of their events.

Friction & Lexington are now working with Sneaky Sound System to ensure that SSS’s long overdue return to the ACT takes place sooner rather than later!

Sneaky will be headlining for Friction & Lexington Music on Saturday 2 May 2009. Full show announcement will be made on 8 February.

Anyone got any inside goss on the story?

They were probably worried about everyone carving another massive peace symbol into the ground there, or that all the munted punters would sweat so much that the old one would come back again.

it was to be held on the foreshore of the lake, out the front of the deck restaurant, next to commonwealth avenue

There is another O-Week gig planned at ANU with a national tour and two British Headliners – that might have played into it?

I thought this story referred to Opera In the Park of which I’ve seen a few signs advertising along the road.

Further to that, just in case those playing at home are still unsure … O = orientation.

O Week aka first week of uni aka trashfest week for the uninitiated.

What does the O stand for? Oprah? Orgasm? Or perhaps they tried to bring Roy Orbison to life for a concert?

Otters.

Where are these apartments getting built near All Bar Nun?

I admit I’d get the shits if I had a live music venue over the road, but then, its not like All Bar Nun has just opened and I wouldn’t buy a place over the road from a live music venue/nightclub if I thought the noise would bother me.

You really have to question the decision making skillz of some people?!

A big O in the park? Sounds like a lucky Friday night to me lol

I am guessing from the name, that it was going to be “in the park”

i wonder what the ‘truly amazing location’ was that they were planning on using?

ACT Government bureaucracy.
Obviously the wowers who run this town can’t handle a wee bit of noise for a few hours, so they had a good whinge to NoHope and co and they made it to hard to be bothered with it.
