Occasionally, the VC-25s are used as Air Force Two as well.

Yeah thats what I meant. Got myself backwards. lol

Also, anything with the word ‘Depot’ in it must make the security guys go crazy.

Sounds like an abbreviation for Depository.

HeHe, Yeah. very true.

There were three Jets in Canberra, To my knowledge they were:

“SAM 28000” which is a VC-25s variant of a 747 – Designated Air Force One while the president was on it.

There was a smaller plane, used by the men in suits and other staff. – Possibly a Boeing C-32 which is a modified 757. That plane is often used as Air Force One and occasionally Air Force Two.

There was also a Delta Airlines Jet being used for Press and media.

The back up VC-25 was reportedly parked at RAAF Base Richmond.

Cops are being called out to some “Man” hiding on the roof of Brand Depot at the moment.

They should be taking off shortly.

So that’s why it was all delayed, stuffed up my lunchtime plans, they shut down all the roads and we were traaaaped. We were next to Brand Depot and a helicopter was buzzing around the top of it. They could have got the work guys to drag him off, there’s heaps of them there.

The jumbo lifted off really early in its run-up. It wasn’t going very fast, and lifted up and seemed to wallow for quite a while before being able to climb properly. The second plane seemed much happier with the runway.

The traffic jam caused by the presidential motorcade even held up the Governor General for nearly half an hour. I love how the article reports how horrible it must have been for the poor GG, but fails to even mention all the other poor drivers affected on their way to work or school.

If it’s the same traffic jam I was in this morning on Adelaide Ave then half an hour is a bit of an exaggeration. Ten minutes, tops, if you were bright enough to exit at State Circle and go around the other way.

No more word on the suspicious “Man” on top of Brand Depot. But the runway is currently being checked after the prior take off before Air Force One takes off.

He may have arrived earlier than scheduled but he sure is running late now.

Just watched the Obama’s speech in Parliament. You only have to listen to him to see why Julia has a crush on him! Compare that to Abbott’s gushing speech, what a travesty. Abbott’s still stuck in the 1950’s and his Menzies/Howard/God worship – it’s embarrassing.

Oh I see what you have done there. You have taken the names “Julia” and “Obama” and changed them into what can only be described as biting political satire with thoughtful social commentary. Clever. Too clever for this site I would imagine.

I guess we wont be seeing you around here for much longer Mr G. With this sort of political acumen and insight I am sure that one of the leading world newspapers will be snapping you up for editorial comment.

Hell, if you present as well in person as you do in print (which I am sure you do), I predict your own television show within 6 months, a slide into politics in a further 12 months and then ….His Excellency Mr G…President of the Republic of Australia.

And we can all say we were there when it started.

Now THAT’S sarcasm!

loved the spot on Hamster Wheel last night, comparing the Obama car to Julia’s… (at 1:50)

Apart from 1 attempt, all Presidental assassinations and attempts have been in the US. Does Washington have to endure F16s flying about the Whitehouse day and night? I think not.

I think you’ll find ever since 9/11 there are fighters in the air over Washington 24/7.

Mr Gillespie said :

There has been too much contempt directed at The Dishonourable President George W. Bush and The Dishonourable John W. Howard…

I fixed that for.

There can never be enough contempt for those two. They give politicians a bad name.

Mr Gillespie8:49 am 17 Nov 11

Oh, an update regarding Bob Brown promising to be on his best behaviour in contrast to the absolutely disgraceful performances he and Senator Nettle put on for George Bush, source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8375194/brown-on-best-behaviour-for-obama-speech

The bit that gives it all away is where the article says he regards Mr Obama as “wiser and more astute” than his predecessor George W Bush.

“(The president) is very welcome here, it’s a pity he can’t stay longer,” he told ABC radio.

HYPOCRISY LOUD AND CLEAR Senator Brown. Make President Obama feel right at home, yet you do that disgraceful exhibition when President George Bush was here.

Actually funny you should say that. Listening to them do laps last night it took me a minute to recall why it was so familiar. I realised that it reminded me of living in DC, with the exception that the was less chopper noise to accompany the fast jets.

Just what I wonder are the policy differences between George W Bush and Barack Obama – GWB was excoriated by most of us, and subjected to rage in parliament, yet no Greens have been dissing Obama that I’m aware of! Guantanamo Bay is still open, the US is still in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Obama stated his pro-nuclear-sales-to-India stance this afternoon … Where is Bob Brown on Obama’s policies? Looking as though the Obama-musk is affecting him too!

That’s the thing. There is a very distinct political bias that favours the Democrats over the Republicans. Notice what Brown Bob said, “We’ve got a president now who knows a lot more about equality and respect than his predecessor, George W Bush,” Senator Brown said. (source: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-11-16/brown-says-he-won27t-interject-in-obama-speech/3674822) which is KEY EVIDENCE in the case against the Greens and the morons they represent.

Now, regarding the comments made in response to what I said about Juliar Gillard’s unmarried boyfriend Tim Matheson being allowed to play freely behind the inner security cordon protecting the President. Someone who says he is a cameraman in the press pack following the President refutes what has been widely said about the stringent security requirements of being near the President. What you are saying is, the belief about the stringent security measures is all show? Like the secrecy of what’s inside Air Force One, and all the fascinating details about the indestructible Presidential car, it’s all a big show-off, is that what you’re saying?

And this picking on my merely referring to them as “Juliar” and “Obummer”, that’s just plain pettiness. There has been too much contempt directed at The Honourable President George W. Bush and The Honourable John W. Howard, it is time it was balanced out a bit and the pro-Democrat, pro-Labor, pro-Green, pro-progressive stupid, eroding political idealists were put in their place and told to just shut up, accept that if something isn’t broken, you don’t fix it, and like our world the way it is, fix ONLY what really is broken, otherwise just bloody well lump it.

The golden moment for me when the secret service agent directed gillard and bryce where to stand, they snapped to attention on command. Classic. That said it all for me.

Did anyone notice whether it was an alien in the photo or ‘warnie’

It’s called “Security Theatre,” by those in the industry, with an added element of showing off just for the sake of it on the part of Australian authorities. It’s worth noting that fighters aren’t used when AF1 is in Israel nor Iraq or Afghanistan where there are very viable threats. Given the amount of air traffic in the Canberra area, it’s also a joke not to just close the air space and have a couple of fighters on hot standby at Fairbairn to respond to an incursion.

I actually wouldn’t hold it against Obama as much as the local authorities, this clip shows how relaxed he and the Secret Service can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_ZUTVESJPk&feature=related

They used the 2005 era DTS limo instead of “The Beast”, just the 4 or so essential Secret Service Counter Assault SUVs, no DC Police or sirens and turned up at a burger joint.

Now keep in mind Washington DC is one of the most violent, dangerous cities in the US. It has a murder rate relative to population that is mind boggling, even in areas just a mile or so from the Capitol.

While nothing like the show put on by the yanks, I once witnessed krudd on his way out of the airport. It was rather amusing seeing the turbo territory swerve about behind C1 presumably so no-one could get a clean shot at the back of his head.

They got a red light out at the intersection, C1 in the right lane and minders sort of half/half. I was tempted to indicate left to get past the territory then pull up in the left lane but then I figure I’d like to see the wife and kids sooner rather than later.

Just what I wonder are the policy differences between George W Bush and Barack Obama – GWB was excoriated by most of us, and subjected to rage in parliament, yet no Greens have been dissing Obama that I’m aware of! Getting sick of this jet buzzing around still, at 10:50p

Hey enough with the Hornets already! They’re not cheap to run and I want to get to sleep!

Oh alright, do another fly by…. I do love the sound of jets 😉

Also, I note that not a single photo actually has a visible Obama in it.

I’ve gotta say that this visit has turned into a disappointment. I don’t mind admitting I was excited about getting to see Obama, but I’m not sure that a single non-official or journalist is actually going to. It just seems like a pointless exercise him visiting if no-one is allowed to see him.
