Oh Dear Nyssa. What has thou done?

By Thumper 17 August 2006 32

Having a quick gecko through the SMH I came across this.

“I’m just happy that the Eels are in the top 8. I’ve been a supporter since 1980 and even since I moved to Canberra as a child. I remember walking through Carlingford with the Eels flag flying when Parramatta played the Bulldogs in the finals (1984/85?)

I still don’t believe the Raiders should even be in the competition – much to hubby’s dismay.

What can I say? I’m a Sydney girl at heart.

Besides, the “Faders” shouldn’t be in the top 8. They’re a crap team who don’t deserve to have a stadium done up for them through the tax payers of the ACT.

Go the Eels!

Shouldn’t be in the comp? Shouldn’t be in the top eight?

Yes, the Raiders may not have the million dollar glamour boys of the other teams, but one thing they can do is win.

And they’ve got eigth place sewn up. Not bad for a team that everyone said would come last this season. Guess they were all very very wrong hey?

What’s Your opinion?

Raiders had a bye. Yay.

They are equal with those evil slippery Eels….

Parramatta score a 40-26 win over the Roosters.

What game are you talking about ?

nyssa76 6:35 pm 20 Aug 06

Yah the Eels won!

(Sorry, had to do it)

Nah the expansion was the death knell for several teams.

Mergers were shite. West Tigers???? It’s the Magpies and Balmain!

Ok, I’ll finish ranting now.

expansion was a good thing in my humble onion. making the sport more serious wasn’t. infact the way they have taken the character out of all sports people has really put me off sport in general.

demz da breakz I guess

The expansion outside of NSW (hell, outside of Sydney, really) is one of those things that sounded like a good idea, but hasn’t necessarily paid off spectacularly well.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I vaguely remember that people (by which I mean, me and my family) were more interested in League back before teams were created outside Sydney, and the Sydney teams were destroyed or merged.

Of course, this could all be to do with me being a former North Sydney Bears supporter who’s still annoyed that my team merged with Manly. Honestly, killing the team stone dead would have ben better.

I remember the call for years even after he retired was “Give it to Chicka”… I took great delight screaming that out at games when I was youngster!!

Chicka, now there was a slippery winger for you.

I remember sitting out at Seiffert watching him run rings around opposition wingers and centres.

I’ll admit to being an Eels fan too, even though I’ve lived in the ‘berra my whole life (Dad grew up in Parramatta). Although it can be tough given their propensity for bottling it in the games that really matter.

I think expanding the game outside of NSW was a great move (and the Raiders are my second team, I still remember getting an autograph from Chicka Ferguson when I was a little tacker).

xman, no I am not.

Yah me!

I’m going to take it one step further and state the following: the comp should never have left NSW.

Yeah, I actually agree with this. Call me a “traditionalist” I guess.
