I have an interstate buyer for my car who wanted an NRMA Inspection on it, so I duly booked it in the the NRMA agents in Lonsdale Street.
When I turned up they asked me if I was buying or selling. I thought this was an interesting question given that should make no difference to the inspection report but anyway, I told them.
The second point was when I came to collect it, I naturally asked is everything okay and they said “Yes fine, but it’s got some oil leaks though”. This obviously concerned me as I was not aware of any such occurrence. I then asked how come there are no leaks on my garage floor given the car has not been out of the garage for three weeks and they got a tad defensive. I also asked where the leak was originating from…they said they “didn’t know, because it’s hard to find them”. I found that response very inadequate.
To be frank I am very suspicious that “oil leaks” is a very good way or getting another booking from a customer. As soon as I got home I went straight to the garage to check the floor (paranoia was setting in) but there is absolutely no sign of oil there at all.
All in all, I can’t help but feel that the two page report with ticked boxes and a generic comment about seemingly a nonexistent condition to be a bloody waste of $220. The car is now back in the garage with paper under the engine bay and I bet there won’t be a drop on it tomorrow.
