I have a sofa and a chair, which I need taken to the tip.

Does anyone know who I can get to do the job?

Most rubbish removers don’t list these items as being items they take away.

I live in the Fisher area.

This guys are really helpful http://www.actrubbish.com.au
They will donate your items if they are in good nick or dispose them. They are very reliable and great prices.

Have you seen the stuff people take to the tip or throw in a skip?

…and complementing that, have you seen the stuff people will take for free if it’s left on the footpath? I once had to eat my words when I told a housemate that there was no way that anyone was going to take their skanky old mattress away for them.

Are they in OK condition? Put an ad on Yoink!, make a post on Freecycle or put them out the front with a ‘free’ sign.

This. You could also try ringing the Salvos. If the stuff is in reasonable condition they will pick it up.

Mum tried to get them, and other charities to pick up some furniture and it seems these days they are not interested in it unless it come from Freedom last week.

When the OP said “need taken to the tip” I took that as being literal.

So did I. Have you seen the stuff people take to the tip or throw in a skip? Think ‘near new three-seater Moran leather sofa’. I’d personally like to thank a certain northern European embassy for my lovely white lawn chairs.

If you’re there at the right time (usually luck) and are willing to have a look around, there can be some very nice stuff found.

Surely you would know a friend with a trailer and just DIY? You can ask them to come over with it and the two of you load it up and it will cost you tip fees of about $7-15.

If that’s not an option for various reasons then most maitenance folk will do it for you for their hourly rate. But that is likely to cost an hour of their charges plus tip fees.

There are heaps of used furniture places that will pick up, some for free and some will even pay a small fee depending on condition. The Salvos too can take it and make sure it goes somewhere where its needed.

Nah – put a sign on them ‘for sale’ … stick them on the kerb. Someone will nick them for you. If you put a ‘free’ sign, people figure its not worth having if its being given away. Then there is always the potential someone might knock on the door and offer the OP some money for her goods.

or call the migrant resource centre – they have any number of migrant (incl refugee) families in need of furniture in any sort of serviceable condition (i have 6248 8577)

Depending on the suburb, you often don’t even need a sign. I’ve left things out the front of my place for Ezy Scrap to come and collect, which have either diminished or disappeared by collection time!

Agree with Freecycle though – we’ve used it a tonne of times now to give our unwanted / unused to those in need.
