ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to the robbery of a 75-year-old man yesterday morning (Saturday, February 23).

About 9.40am, the elderly man was followed from the Commonwealth Bank ATM to the ground level Myer car park of Westfield Belconnen.

The offender threw the man to the ground and kicked him several times. The offender fled after stealing the man’s wallet.

The victim was taken to hospital, but has since been released.

The offender is described as being Aboriginal in appearance. He is about 170cm (5’7”) tall with a solid build. At the time, he was wearing a brown top, black pants and white shoes.

Anyone who may have seen the incident, or the man described is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

While we’re advocating capital punishment for drug dealers and assaults can we put in the cyclists that ride two abreast?

Everyone is avoiding the main topic here but this man!

Of course there would be high quality CCTV appropriately positioned in the Westfield carparks in order to deter the low life from resorting to brazen, vile behaviour, wouldn’t there?

Crucifixions are to the left.

We are of course assuming that this person took drugs, however this could be the unfortunate consequence of flaunting wealth in front of someone from an oppressed minority. If there were sufficient services, education, social welfare, and money put into this community there would be no need for people to act out their frustrations. [/sarcasm]

Actually, you will probably find that an educated person with employment and an income is highly unlikely to commit a buglary/assault at 9am at Belconnen Mall. 1am in Civic for the educated person’s assault.

Probably goes out with the other female of aboriginal appearance that had a spate of muggings at the bus interchange/mcdonalds last year.
There is a sect of people of aboriginal appearance in belconnen at the govie flats. So were paying for them to be close to go and mug people.

Good thing we’re spending money on cycle ways, soon the muggers will be mobile.

Its not about deterrence its about eliminating violent criminals off our street!

Well yeah – I’m not in favor of the death penalty at all, but there are clearly some people who need to be incarcerated for a very long time.
Not necessarily to rehabilitate them.
Not necessarily to punish them.
Simply to protect the rest of society by physically preventing removing from them all opportunities for further offense.

Hope the victim is ok, but if he happens to later die in the next few years from the injuries sustained i’d like to see this prick done for murder. 75 years olds dont heal like the rest of us, a major fall and you could be gone.

Where is the CCTV capture? obivously hanging around the bank.

Is that you Chief Justice Higgins?

Nah, he’s just pre-empting IP! 🙂

Aren’t the Ice dealers, at least the ones manufacturing or importing the stuff, all Bikies armed with 9mm pistols, courtesy of a Sydney post office and possibly also corrupt Customs staff?

This robber should also be sought for crimes against fashion – mixing a brown top, black pants and white shoes.

Seriously though, this was a nasty crime and there’s only one place for the perp – Hume Hilton, Monaro Marriott or whatever we’re calling it today. Where he’ll be bored to death for four years while Justice Refshauge decides what to do with him.

IP

This is unbelievable crap. It makes me feel sick and furious. I was walking into the door from the top carpark with two of my boys exactly as this was happening.

Sinking the slipper into a bloke that age is an act so disgusting that words can’t describe it. My Dad is 78 now. He’s a bit doddery and I can easily imagine how this went down, with my old man as the victim.

I hope the victim is OK, and may the perp rot in hell.

Poor old fella, once again I am unfortunately proven right death penalty and harder penalties for violent criminals is a must!!!

Read the literature on capital punishment and deterrence, you might be surprised at how ineffectual it is.

Of course how careless of me. How dare an old bloke take money from an atm and think he had the right not to give a man of aboriginal appearance some.

How horrible. I hope they catch the bastard. Unfortunately, it still won’t help this poor old man feel any safer in the community. You can’t get much safer than 9:40am on a saturday morning in a mall…or at least you would think.

When ice dealers are found they should be given a 9mm lobotomy. Japan and Singapore have capital punishment (Japan only for murder yet ice ruins so many lives) and I doubt anyone would call their societies backward. We are far, far, far too soft on real scum.

Not Japan, no, but I think there’s room for debate regarding Singapore.

Scum is a good description.

9.40am on a Saturday morning, hells bells

Ice keeps the buggers up.

Happier days when they were on opiates and only really active when needing to score.
