ABC Online have this story on Old Parliament House being left off the National Heritage List.

What conspiracy theory can we come up with for this ommission? Is it a plot by Govt backbenchers to form a committee to take over control of it. Or is it a plot by DOFA to build a new multistory carpark?

Any other guesses?

Hell – my SHED is heritage listed. They want my shed but not the nice ol’ wedding cake?

Okay – but there’s not much room for the portraits.

Heritage listing is a weird and wild thing.

And there are many kinds of it.

this is referring to National Heritage Listing, not the local kind to which those weird and awful flats belong.

having said that Uluru was left off his list as well, my initial un-informed suspicion is that it’s a Coalition slush fund for giving buckets of cash to their mates.

genuine heritage sites need not apply.

Dickson and Lyneham flats have made it to the heritage list.

For those who don’t know which ones they are take a look left and right just after you pass the Dickson Ambulance Station heading South on Northbourne Avenue.

So I’ve been told they are an award winning design for low income public housing.

I say knock them down and build anything else.

Who’s in charge of heritage listing and whos arse is their head stuck up.

G

Maybe it’s a way to downplay Buzzacott’s shenanigans. A way of saying that the old building he desecrated isn’t really all that important to us.
