Hey guys, I am studying photography at CIT and have an assignment based around the theme of light.

I am looking for old style street lights or posts around Canberra. Google isn’t being very helpful so I am completely going off the advice and guide of people I ask.

If you have any ideas where some are or know where some are it would be awesome and help me so much if you let me know.

Would also love to hear if any knows some awesome places to photograph around Canberra like interesting buildings, beautiful landscapes and what not.

Thanks so much everyone!! 🙂

Arthur Circle, Dominion Circuit, Mugga Way, Vancouver St

Loads of excellent old light & Canberra’s first street signs too…

A lovely building is East Block which was the former GPO and now houses the National Archives.

Try the one on the corner of Mugga Way and Baudin street. Also further down Mugga Way there are some older street lights. Farrer also has a bunch.

A suggestion for sunset light streams through trees – make a ping pong smoke bomb and let it off, it will highlight these streams and create a bit of mood in the shot.

Banfield st Downer has funny old street lights.

DJ’s back entrance ceiling is nice with mosaic tiles.

Assuming you mean streetlights, there’s check out Kingston (Dawes Street, near the oval), then cross Canberra Ave into Griffith. Forrest, Red Hill and Deakin would probably all have old skool street lights too.

Also try Reaid, Ainslie, Turner and O’Connor on the north side.

ANU has some great buildings and is close to the Shine Dome and New Acton.

As for landscapes, there’s great views around the region from the obvious places, but also try the arboretum, Mt Painter, Mt Taylor and the Brindabellas.

Ainslie ave, on the Reid side. There’s even public art on the traffic island devoted to the lights near Gorman house
