Facebook indicated something fun is coming our way thanks to the Canberra Musician’s Club and its residency at the O’Connor Polish Club:

We all love new music. All those loud jangly distorted guitars and the bleepy-bloop noises are super awesome, really.

Just once in a while though, it might be nice to have a night out without all of that. A night of good old-fashioned music-making that your grandma doesn’t believe exists any more. A night of dirty, down-home and/or jazzed-up tunes ripped straight from a scratchy 78.

Well keep your dancecards free, because with the help of the Canberra Musicians Club, Friday September 7th will be that night.

THE OLD TIMEY MUSIC REVUE

MOOCHERS INC. play trad jazz for people who hate trad jazz. Others are welcome to listen but aren’t allowed to complain. The six-piece group features the least respectable members of respected Canberra bands like the Brass Knuckle Brass Band, Rafe and the Well Dressed, Spectrum Big Band and Goji Berry Jam.

KRISTABELLE AND THE SOUTHERN JUBILEE RINGERS have a passion for all sorts of old Americana from Western swing to Appalachian ‘old-time’ and authentic cowboy songs. They know you’ve been too long in the saddle, out on that lone prairie – so bring along your bed-roll, tie up your horse and settle down as they serenade you with some sweet harmonies to set you back on the trail.

JONNO ZILBER is a blues singer/guitarist/songwriter from Canberra. Since the age of 16, Zilber has toured extensively around Australia and overseas, playing everywhere from school yards to prison yards, outback pubs with topless dancers to churches with born-again preachers, run-down bars with no electricity to large international festivals. He has performed with some big names in Australian music and shared the stage and recorded with some of Australia’s most respected blues musicians.

Ah, if only the Poets’ Train weren’t on that weekend…Whisking (or whiskying) lots of bereted ones to Sydney. This sounds, um, fun.
