Olympic Fever

So hubby wouldn’t let me use our honeymoon money to get back home for the Olympics, and this little redhead is not interested in a Foxtel contract for the 2 weeks of 2010 she might actually watch TV. So….anyone know any bars/pubs/places that are going to be showing Olympics, preferably with some pale ales on tap, and potentially a couple of other ex-pats with whom to discuss Wayne Gretsky’s third go-round as Canada’s Men’s hockey Team coach?

Where are the Canadians hanging out in February?

I’ve seen Molson and Labatts at Woolies. Great Western Gold you won’t find though

1st Choice carries Unibroue as of late last year. Pretty strange timing, word has it the last ever shipment to Australia has just landed (or is about to), so you’d better be quick!

Bet you are glad you got it srted!

Don’t be fooled. Foxtel do it all the time.

Having access to all channels for a month is just stock standard. After the first month, when it reverts to mostly the basic package, people work out they can’t see the stuff they liked any more.

So I called Foxtel, and gave them a good sob story (appealing to sporting culture helped, I think. I was all ‘imagine how you’d feel if you couldn’t watch footie’ etc etc, and bargain city! 6 month contract (apparently they don’t do that anymore) and installation yesterday.

guess the Canadians are hanging out at my place this February 🙂

now if only I could get some Canadian beer…

Download it from the internet, eh.

It’s a little known fact only three letters are required to spell the country north of the US…

C, eh… N, eh… D, eh!

Give foxtel a call and see if you can drive a hard bargain. They might be more flexible with their contracts in the current environment. I don’t have any inside information, just may be worth a try.

I’ve found Sthn Cross and Hellenic have been flexible in the past as long as it doesn’t conflict with a footy code

Don’t you mean where are the Canadians hanging ‘oot’?

Where are the Canadians hanging out in February?

Wherever there are cheap drinks and loose morals. Why not Transit bar then?

Just had a chat with the Canadian High Commission – they have no information at the moment, but have said they’ll probably be doing something. Best to keep an eye on the website: http://www.australia.gc.ca

In the meantime, I think….I think I might cave. Foxtel has 4 dedicated channels & free IQ for the first month.

Sacre bleu. How much is hockey worth to me?

Please let there be a decent screen showing decent amounts of hockey somewhere in ACT… I’ll be there!

did you call the HC and ask?

Oh God, I asked for that didn’t I? 😛

Katydid I’ll have to put you in touch with my Canuck friend Katherine (now that I’ve established that you’re not one and the same) – she’s keen to know what you find out as well. When I mentioned it to her she said that she and her hubby have purchased streaming packages on the net before (to watch hockey I think). Anyway, she was hoping to be able to find something similar for the Olympics so I’ll let you know what she comes up with. Is there any sort of Canadian club in Canberra?

I’m still Katydo: tomorrow I’ll be Katydid.

I don’t know where all the Canadian Canberrans hang out, but I have had some success with swaying the good folks at the Hellenic Club to change the TV channel on occasion.

I wouldn’t rely on Ch 9 to give any decent coverage. It will most likely be Eddie Maguire, interviews with themselves, Eddie Maguire, interviews with Americans, figure skating, accidents at the luge and Eddie Maguire

Maybe set the VCR (do peole still have such a thing) or send an email to the Canadian High Commission to see if any of them plan to go somewhere

we’re all Katydid!

But mostly me

no, i’m katydid, and so is my wife…

😉

Canadians in Canberra all hang out at the Phillip rink, usually during ice-hockey season. It’s quite odd going there and hearing all their accents, eh?

Certainly depends on who you think it is…

Channel 9 will have coverage, but unlikely to be anything great and if its hockey you are interested in, then you’ll only get highlights and maybe the gold medal game on channel 9.

Obviously most club/pubs will be open during the day, which is evening in Canada and when Hockey games will probably be on. As for ones with ex pat canadians, i can’t help with, but as I’ve found with most Canadians, they love their hockey so they will be gathering somewhere.

Is this who I think it is? 🙂
