The RiotACT hating Ross Solly is compereing 7.30ACT on the ABC tonight and they’ve sent in this list of topics to be covered:

    — The closing of All Bar Nun.
    — The tale of William Throsby Bridges, founder of Duntroon.
    — Because of the wet, the grass is long – and CSIRO experts say we should be prepared ( not panicked) for the prospect of grass fires.
    — New reporter, Jeremy Thompson, is a twitcher. His bird photos will close the program.

I knew you were a lovable rogue, niftydog. Anyway thanks guys for all the feedback, good and bad, on the radio show and 730.. Obviously next week I’m going to have to get a mask of some sort – does anyone know where I can get hold of a Johnboy face? And for the record, I don’t hate riotact at all. In fact it gives me good insights into what the community is thinking. And then I have a little cry and some quiet time… 🙂

Hahahaha! Yes, unfortunately if you read RA (kinda like listening to the retired geezers that ring into talk-back radio) you’ll quickly discover that the majority of posts are negative complaints about ANYTHING and everything (too little rain, too much rain, etc etc)!
But, in amongst that are some really good points and themes.
Re: your program, I personally like listening to you most mornings and think you do a good job! I have to say though, I caught the end of your interview just before 9 this morning about the ‘leadership challenge’ issue (Andrew Leigh?). Wow, that was kinda cringworthy. Do you you when you’re watching something on TV (or listening to the radio) and you end up feeling embarrased for the participants, and guilty/awkward for watching/listening?
That’s how I felt re: that interview! I know pollies are tricky, but there’s only so many ways you can ask the same question! Otherwise, keep up the good work! 🙂

I don’t mind listening to Ross, except when he “Bangs on about Geelong” and you can piss off the nitwit sports guy (Tim – “who loves to lay cable” Gable) he’s in bed with the Raiders/Brumbies-just to get a story and treats anything to do with the AFL as if the world is going to end.

As mentioned earlier, thank god the dribble is broken up by AM.

Nothing wrong with banging on about Geelong. My fear is the anticipated saturation coverage of the US election throughout this year where we will have regular crossings to Braindead Arizona for the thoughts of the local storekeeper. And agree with Lillypilly, Ross is a huge improvement on the one filling in a couple of weeks ago (the one before Jo Laverty)

Assuming all those who posted about Ross’ physiog being more suitable for radio can only have faces suitable enough for posting on online forums.

I like the Canberra historian bit that pops up on 7.30. As a non-native Canberran, and a non-native Aussie to boot, I find it really interesting, but that’s just me.

Didn’t think about the diving story, until someone pointed out that it wasn’t particularly regional, unless I missed something of course.

There is no interesting news from Canberra, because Canberra’s a boring hole – so everyone from Sydney tells me!

Anyway, I’d much rather listen to Ross Solly than that irritating loudmouthed pinhead, Biggsie or those puerile little boys, Scottie and Nige.

And Ross, don’t take it all to heart – some of us on RiotACT would tear Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa and Albert Einstein a new one too, just for the fun of it!

Haha you know I love you guys really. Even when you bag the absolute crap out of me. Even you, niftydog, who I’m sure deep down inside is a kind soul…

Well, if this is the real Ross Solly, then perhaps he can provide some insight as to why ABC 7:30 on Friday 3 Feb was lackluster in local content. The All-Bar-Nun story was good, and it was even local. Then there was ‘Bush Fire Ready’. However, what the hell was with ‘cliff diver special’ which had nothing at all to do with Canberra or the region? And why do you guys keep pulling out that old Canberra historian who spends 15 minutes crapping on about Canberra’s connection with England and the queen etc…

Let’s face it. It was less than what one should expect from a local ‘ABC 7:30’ programme. Or was it? I reckon it was, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It’s tax-payer money going towards ABC 7:30 Canberra’s ‘filler stories’ which are pathetic substitutes to fill a void left by non-existant journalistic effor or imagination and creativity. The same can be said for ABC 666 Canberra and its less than impressive presenters and lack of content. That means you too, Ross. Though not as much as the others (marginally). Oh, and sorry to say, but let’s not forget the waste of money that is the 7:00pm Canberra news.

You’d have to be mad to think nothing was wrong with the ABC. It’s more a matter of whether you care or not.

Well. Nothing ever stopped people from Prime, Win, TEN and the ABC from bringing news from the region before. What’s the problem now? Well ????

However I would rather fill my ears with acid than listen to that god awful woman who filled in for him a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely horrendous

It would be worth getting her on again just to witness that.

I can’t imagine why he would hate RiotACT. Judging by that list of topics, RiotACT is where Solly gets his ‘original’ ideas from.

Every one of those topics has been well covered here.

Ross, if you’re still reading here, I reckon you should do a story/interview JB re: Riotact! People would be interested to know about this Canberra-focused newsgroup!
You could discuss history, clashes (sounds like JB has ruffles a few feathers!), big stories discussed, and the going’s on at the ‘Eagle’s nest’! It’d be gold! 🙂

Good on ya Ross. My bride wakes up to you each morning and she loves tou long time. Me, I can take you or leave. At least you get on here and have a crack. Me, I prefer the right wing 2CC, standfast that idiot Jorian. Each to their own.

You can hardly call 2CC a right wing station when they have those raving lefties Jorian Gardner and Mike Welsh doing key shifts.

Silly Solly.

I think long doses of Ross can be a bit much. At least when I’m listening, the news and AM breaks it up a bit.

Go Ross, I think you do a great job at our marvellous ABC666.
Critics can always turn off; you cannot please all the people all the time. You are always up with current topics and interview the major people. Carmo just said, on 666, you looked good scrubbed up for TV, I thought you only had a head for radio.

Solly is looking devilish handsome and sartorially splendid! Good job!

Ross Solly groupies… rarer than Yowies and more difficult to believe they really exist than Nessie.

Look at this:

Maybe that explains something…

I recognise some names!

I like Ross Solly

Indeed I am, Ross. Note my polite restraint.

Time to reconsider another run for the Libs, Ross?

What was that about left-wing bias at the ABC?

I will always love you Ross – when we played for Barton CC you gave me not out when I edged a ball to the keeper 🙂 🙂

sounds like riveting TV. I can see why people choose to get their local news from RA.

My wife loves waking up with Ross weekday mornings.

Now, if Ross could just make 7.30 go on a little later she could go to bed with him too…

Haha you know I love you guys really. Even when you bag the absolute crap out of me. Even you, niftydog, who I’m sure deep down inside is a kind soul…
