ACT Policing has arrested a 24-year-old Ngunnawal man after a vehicle pursuit overnight in the Canberra’s North.
Around 5.45am this morning (Friday, September 7), police were conducting patrols in the city area when they saw a green Daewoo Espero pull into a nearby car park.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but after the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit commenced. The pursuit was terminated after the vehicle travelled on the wrong side of Ainslie Avenue. The vehicle was sighted again on Parkes Way and the pursuit recommenced. The pursuit continued towards the GDE and into Belconnen.
Stop sticks were successfully deployed on Copeland Drive causing all four tyres to deflate. The pursuit continued into Scullin, where a wheel came off the vehicle. The driver left the vehicle and ran through a number of backyards before he was apprehended by Police.
The pursuit lasted for a total of 21 minutes and the maximum speed reached by the 24-year-old driver was 140km/h in a 90km/h zone.
The 24-year-old was charged with a number of traffic offences and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
