A man has died and another man has been arrested after an alleged assault in Queanbeyan on Boxing Day.

Police found a semi-conscious 46-year-old man under the Queens Bridge at around 9:30 am Thursday morning (26 December) after responding to reports of an assault on Trinculo Place.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Queanbeyan District Hospital, where he died.

Initial inquiries revealed the injured man had been approached by another man and was repeatedly punched before collapsing, Police say.

A 50-year-old man was later arrested at a house on Lowe Street at around 12:30 this morning (Friday 27 December) after detectives from the Monaro Police District, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, established Strike Force Jinalee to investigate the death.

NSW Police say they established a crime scene on Trinculo Road, and at a nearby hotel, and both crime scenes have been examined by specialist forensic officers.

The deceased man has not yet been formally identified.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to call Queanbeyan Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
