A surprising number of you have been gagging to finally get the Ten network’s One HD digital TV service.

In the ACT it’s been held up by the local aggregators, Macquarie Southern Cross Media, dragging the chain as they figure out how to make a quid from it.

Today they’ve announced that it’s kicking off on 2 July for anyone who can get High Definition digital election.

Some of the sport highlights that these regional viewers in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the ACT can look forward to from 2 July 2009 include:
    — AFL – the 2009 NAB Cup, home and away season, and finals including the Grand Final returning to the network in 2009
    — Netball – ANZ Championship Competition and all Test matches featuring the Australian Netball Diamonds, exclusively for the next five years
    — Commonwealth Games – 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games
    — Formula 1 – every round of the F1 World Championship scope
    — Moto GP – extensive coverage of every round of the World Championship
    — NASCAR – live coverage of the Daytona 500 and other major Sprint Cup races, live coverage of the Nationwide Series, as well as Sprint Cup qualifying
    — Australian Rally Championship – exclusive coverage of every round
    — National Football League (NFL) – three games per week live, including the flagship Sunday and Monday night games, as well as live coverage of play-offs and the Super Bowl
    — Major League Baseball (MLB) – five games per week live, including prime time coverage of play-offs and World Series
    — National Basketball Association (NBA) – three games per week live
    — Golf – US Masters, US Open, World Golf Championships including the Accenture MatchPlay Championship, the CA Championship, the Bridgestone Invitational and the World Cup, Australian PGA, Ladies Masters, 2010 Ryder Cup, and 15 additional international and domestic events including the Johnnie Walker Classic, and the Asian tour’s flagship event the Singapore Open and the tour’s season ending Volvo Masters of Asia.
    — U.S. College sports – American football and basketball
    — Tennis – ATP and WTA tennis, details to be confirmed, approximately 11 tournaments during 2009.
    — Swimming – HD ONE is the exclusive broadcaster for Swimming Australia. This includes coverage of the
Australian Swimming Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, Australian Short Course Championships, FINA
World Short Course, Swimmer of the Year – a minimum 109 hours per year for the next eight years.

So sports nuts, rejoice!

Are you mocking Slamball, dear sir? ‘Tis the sport of kings!!!

Good to see a few sports from the pages of Obscure Sports Monthly.

when will the Canberra Times list SBS Two and Ten ONE ?

Ah, good to see some things never change in this high-def age. OneHD is already screwing its own published schedule.

I demand a Canberra version of Sydney’s Digital 44 or Perth’s Channel 31.

Dodgy community program creation can’t be any worse than Channel ten currently.

Its called ChannelVision on TransACT. Local community-based, community-produced TV, not sure where its available on free-to-air though.

Halfway through Transworld Sport if we go off the OneHD website.

7pm tomorrow night according to the station promo

Then johnboy can have his own tv show.

Anyone know what time One HD kicks off?

Bump for tomorrow night. 🙂

for whatever reason, the onehd program on the epg shows transmission from 1.00am 2nd july, not at night. will check if it is actually on tomorrow morning, would like to see the F1 race advertising on epg for 2.00pm…

Let me get this straight, 10 is going to broadcast 1 on 50. WTF.

Thats because it has LCN #1 in the capitals Regional areas are different.

And yet, that still does not answer the question as to why the allocation goes 5, 5A and the 6?

A clerical error when it was all first written down perhaps…..

ahh yes the good old days when ABC was on channel 3 so being able to record countdown audio straight of an FM radio (around 91 MHz)

The 5A allocation was always on a secondary service basis – the primary allocation for that particular part of the spectrum are for meteorological satellite downlinks.

Hopefully we might be able to get a bit more live AFL from July 2. Prime and SC Ten have been extremely disapointing with their coverage this year. Late night delayed AFL telecasts so that we can watch Simpsons marathons just doesn’t cut it for me.

I am hopeful as well, but not sure how it is going to work.

As was discussed in a thread earlier this year, AFL is protected by anti-siphoning laws, which oddly enough applies to commercial digital channels broadcasting on their 2nd channel before it is shown on their main channel. This means something protected by the laws (most Aussie sports) can not be shown on One HD before it has been shown on Ten.

Still trying to work out whether this means it can’t be shown on One HD in Canberra until it has been shown on Ten in Canberra (eg. for a Sat night game, probably 11.30pm, making One almost useless), or if it can actually be shown on One HD in Canberra as soon as it has been aired into which every city it is going live to (eg. 7.30pm into Brisbane live, so can be shown here live, in which case, very useful!).

Ahh fond memories of channel 5A, who knows why channel five occurred twicve…

SBS is has always been Channel 28.

not on transact. is 3, and sbs2 is 31…

Why is that unusual?
Television channels have never been programmed channels 1-10, adding to Reprobate, SBS is has always been Channel 28.

What’s so weird about that. Ten (10) is on 5, Prime (7) is on 6 and Win (9) is on 8.

Or, on your old analogue VHF/UHF TV, ABC1 (channel 2 or channel 3 for the real Canberra oldies)is on 9, Ten is on 7, 7 (Prime) is on 34, and 9 (WIN) is on 31!

Ah the good old days…

NBA = No Basketball Australia

So what three games per week ae they talking about?

I have read previously that SC10’s second channel will not be a simulcast on One HD. They are keeping the second SD channel open for other future ideas. I don’t see the problem with that, everyone should have a HD STB by now. Especially when they are under $100 new.

They’ll only show the sports that Channel 10 has the rights for but don’t want to show on their normal channel.

I think they show the Saturday night AFL game live, but that will be about it. Other than that it will be F1, motor bikes, netball and a bit of baseball it looks like.

Won’t be any soccer unless they outbid Fox Sports for the rights.

If you want good coverage for anything else Fox Sports is still the way to go. Football without ads is $50 a month well spent.

Are we getting ONE HD only or the SD channel (called TWELVE I suppose) as well?.

One HD only at this stage.

I personally wondered why they Southern Cross, who explain the delay as being due to the rollout of HD infrastructure, didn’t take One SD from launch on Channel 55 where they used to have “MyTalk”, in order to keep the regional folk happy and included until the HD version was ready to go.

Please!! but I don’t hold out much hope…

Neither do I, particularly given that they’re promising the 2009 NAB Cup (which finished about three months ago). I’m willing to place a large-ish bet on the fact that they won’t improve the live AFL coverage at all, apart from the Monday night footy discussion show “One Week At A Time” (which I’m looking forward to).

Other than that, get ready for live coverage of Slamball and Extreme Paintball (judging by their current Sydney programming!)

I don’t care, I just hopes it keeps some bloody sport off the real channels, so that proper television isn’t interrupted by sport so often!

What makes proper television? Villainy? Promiscuity? Innuendo? Reality? Bah. Sport is proper television. A touch of news is also good. Everything else is rubbish.

Holden Caulfield4:32 pm 16 Jun 09

You can switch to WIN HD then. 😉

But I like the nice music and the pretty scenery they currently have…

Of course no powerlifting, weightlifting, shot put or World’s Strongest Man but we’re used to that type of attitude from the media by now. Just keep showing more women’s sport crap to keep the PC and hairy armpits brigade happy.

WSM is an amusing side-show but I think you might be confusing “feminist conspiracy” with “sports that people are more likely to want to watch.”

i wonder if the ONE HD signal is as good as foxtel HD. foxtel HD is awesome picture quality

Which is good, because their regular PQ us nothing to write home about!

I’m more concerned with access to the content, any possible improved pic quality will be a bonus.

i wonder if the ONE HD signal is as good as foxtel HD. foxtel HD is awesome picture quality

sorry Squil, i read your quesiton wrong, yes as Spectra said, it depends on if your STB is HD or not.

Squil > ONEHD is a HD channel so you wont be able to pick it up. blame the australian government for allowing retialers to sell non HD set top units.

however in Sydney, they actually do simulcast ONEHD on the SD channel, so if you were in Sydney you would be able to get ONEHD, just not in High Definitio (even though not all sports are shown in HD one ONEHD anyways)Not sure if southern Cross 10 will be doing this. i dont see any reason why they wont, seeing that channel 55 is a duplicate of channel 5.

also JULY 2ND?????

ill believe it when i see it!

Will I be unable to receive OneHD with the same set-up?

It depends entirely on whether your STB (not your TV) supports HD. If it does, you’ll get it. If it doesn’t, you won’t.

Just need to get TransACT to pull their finger out and broadcast all of the freeview channels now. Can’t believe that I can view more ‘free’ channels through a pair of rabbit-ears than I can through the cabled pay tv box. Talk about cheapskate shysters!

Forgive my ignorance, but can someone please explain.

I have a dodgy SD television attached to a set-top box, through which I watch digital transmission.

Will I be unable to receive OneHD with the same set-up?

About time! Too bad the NBA season finished yesterday. Guess it’s not too long until the next one starts.

Awesome news. Can’t wait for it. They show plenty of awesome motorsport events. No more waiting up for the delayed F1 telecast. Its going to be good.

Again, too bad it couldn’t have been a month earlier. The 24h of Lemans would be have been great to watch. Congrats to David Brabham.

Hah, I had always assumed it was a problem with my TV’s reception.

Thanks Holden!

His brother Geoff won it in 1993 – also in a pug.

Probably some kind of record?

I sincerely hope so, and I’ll believe it when I see it!!! Channel 10 said in early 2007 that Channel 10HD would be broadcast on Southern Cross Ten “mid next year”

Good news – the sports coverage on the national free to air channels is terrible – not one of them made mention of the fact that David Brabham won the Le Mans 24hour.

That’s pretty piss weak really. Best to rely on internet media for that. 😉

Good news – the sports coverage on the national free to air channels is terrible – not one of them made mention of the fact that David Brabham won the Le Mans 24hour.

They’re waving that Commonwealth Games banner a bit early, its not till October 2010.

NASCAR! YESSSSSSS

Holden Caulfield11:47 am 16 Jun 09

Great news! A bit late, but great news all the same.

I would have liked their 24 Hours of Le Mans coverage this past weekend. 🙁

This pleases me!
