One way to protest library closures

Something I thought needed wider prominence.

In the comments GuruNik has made a suggestion for those library users wishing to express their disastisfaction with the ACT Government’s decision to close the Griffith Library.

“just drop your returns back to the legislative assembly building…leave them on the front counter with a nice note for john hargraves.”

If any of you decide to give it a try we’d love to hear how you go.

well woody, fuck all probably. but at least i’ll feel righteous for a while for giving it a go. or i could just sit in my comfort zone slagging off the world and becoming more jaded by the day.
and i do belive that my taxes should be spent for the betterment of society, and not on monuments of folly. business is for making money, goverment is for spending it. dollars are just the easily quantifiable part of the value of such matters, i reckon that there is more to life than the bottom line. griffith library is a glaring example of our differing views. but its what makes this forum good.

Incidentally, the griffith library building also houses an office for administering of speed camera fines. Since I’m assuming the ACT government isn’t planning on reducing one of their sources of revenue, I’m wondering whether this office is planning on being rehoused, or whether they’re planning on gazumping the area currently being used by the library?

And if he comes back with:

– about three weeks ago
– consultants say it’s an inefficient and ineffective use of public funds;
– no; and
– yes

what difference will it make?

so i’ll do it. with a note…
mr hargraves, could you provide myself, and the people of this city with answers to:
1. when exactly was the decision to close griffith library made?
2.what impediments are there at this time to keeping the griffith library open?
3.have funds for operating griffith library been reallocated to other services?
4. is it your opinion that (for example) an arbortoreum has more to give the people than a library?

if anyone has any more ideas, i’m writing it up by 9am tomorrow to drop off whilst i’m working in the city tomorrow morning…

oh shit….now i’ll have to back back up a flight of fancy with action……

excellent – think i’ll do this.

must go and borrow a suitable book for him to return.

“1001 Ways of Experiencing the Pleasures of Krystelnacht by not Circumventing the Total Fireban”

“1001 Ways to Persuade a Protesting Mob of Bookworms that there are Better Ways to Spend a Saturday Morning”?

Who the hell cares about closing a library? Plus, we are closing the schools anyway – it is not like the kids will be able to read.

There are, however, some titles that Hargreaves would be pleased to read: from the erudite “1001 Ways To…” series.
“1001 Ways to Outfox RBTs”
“1001 Ways to Persuade the UberFuhrer of your Inestimable Worth in the Politburo”
“1001 Ways to Beat the Pokies”.
And no doubt there are others.
-If only Griffith Library had stocked this esteemed series, the decision to close it might never have been taken.

In any case, he’s unlikely to read them.

not much point getting into civil disobedience if you’re not willing to bear some costs.

They may need to install a booze bus on London Circuit if he does it regularly….

John (Don’t vote for me) Hargraves can take ’em across the plaza to the Link Library.

I don’t blame the goverment for the Libary Closures. It is clearly AL GORE’s fault.

He invented the internet, remember?

I like it
I imagine you’d get a call informing you your books are at the assembly and they want you to collect them as they’d hate you to get a fine
