One week to submit your thoughts to the gubmint on the Royal Commission into Child Abuse

The Government isn’t making it too clear how it is going about putting together the Royal Commission into Child Abuse. For the benefit of Canberrans who would like to, or feel they should, make a submission to inform the secretariat BEFORE they set up and freeze the framework, the deadline is 26 November – just one week. Unfortunately, the track record on inquiries, regardless of how wellmeaning the PM may be, is that once the sheer size and scope of the task is recognised (particularly with the states demurring a little) the government may well become very selective and minimal about how much it is prepared to listen. Already the title: Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse is a potential narrowing.

Comments on this paper and any other issues are requested in writing by close of business 26 November 2012. This deadline takes into consideration the Prime Minister’s desire to have arrangements for the establishment of the Royal Commission in place before the end of 2012, to enable the Commission to commence its public work in early 2013. However, the Government may continue to accept comments after this date, depending on the number of comments received, and the ability of individuals and organisations to meet this deadline. Besides the contact details below, there is a webform:

Submissions can be made:

Those who were involved in the cover up will be retired or dead before this circus reports.

It’s a step above the Eastman inquiry, most people involved in the cover up are already retired or dead and it’s only just started.

Frankly I found it a bit insulting given the amount of time this has been reported and known about. A report from a kid 20 years ago is still more credible than a whistle blowing copper.

Those who were involved in the cover up will be retired or dead before this circus reports.

It’s not submissions to the commission, just the scoping.

I’d rather get the thing underway quickly before the forces of darkness have time to mobilise.

I wonder what the “Mt Ainslie” brigade think of confession. I suspect they are very protestant and wouldn’t mind hauling Pell off his, er, ped-estal.

A one week deadline for submissions about something of this nature sounds like a scam. I wonder what the real reason is behind this decision.

It’s not submissions to the commission, just the scoping.

I’d rather get the thing underway quickly before the forces of darkness have time to mobilise.
