Liberal Leader Zed Seselja is letting the world know the he and the Liberals care about families in ways Labor and the Greens do not. At least in he world according to Zed.
The Canberra Liberals are the only party in the Assembly which recognises and seeks to address the cost of living pressures on Canberra families and highlights the significant pressure government policy is having on putting more stress on ACT families’ budgets, the Leader of the Opposition, Zed Seselja, said today.
The Canberra Liberals will today highlight the cost of living pressures on Canberra families as a Matter of Public Importance in the Legislative Assembly.
“Across the board, many of the key cost of living indicators have skyrocketed after nine years of ACT Labor and now more pressure is being applied with a number of Labor and Greens backed policies,” Zed said.
“For electricity, the cost has risen a massive 70 per cent since ACT Labor came to power. This doesn’t include other programs like the inefficient schemes like the solar feed-in-tariff that is expected to add at least $200 more to Canberra families’ electricity bills every year over and above other rises.
And the list goes on, since 2001;
— Water costs have increased by over 100%
— Rates have increased 75%
— Rents have increased 55%This doesn’t include Childcare costs which are the most expensive in the country and rising 8 per cent in just the last two years, or the high cost of buying a home in Canberra. All of these increases are having an impact on Canberra families.
“Last year the Canberra Liberals called for a cost of living analysis to coincide with the ACT budget, to recognise the cost implications of government policies on ACT residents. Both the Labor party and the Greens refused to support this.
“We will continue to stand up for Canberra families by highlighting the cost implications of government decisions on Canberra families,” Zed concluded.
Cost of living doesn’t affect anyone else then? And what programs would Zed have cut to reduce these “cost implications”?
