More than 5000 breath tests were conducted over the past 14 days in the ACT as part of Operation RAID: Remove All Impaired Drivers.
The operation, which ran from Monday November 28, came to a close at midnight Sunday night (December 11).
On Thursday December 1, in a joint operation with NSW Police, ACT Policing conducted a border “lockdown” on the Barton Highway near Hall, stopping all vehicles coming into and out of the ACT. More than 1800 motorists were breath-tested in the four-hour lockdown.
Over the course of the operation, 66 drivers returned positive alcohol readings.
The highest reading for the fortnight was recorded by a 25-year-old Dunlop man with 0.272 on Sunday night (December 11) about 9.45pm.
On Saturday, December 3, a 37-year-old Theodore man recorded 0.211 after being involved in a collision. The collision occurred at the intersection of Tharwa Drive and Norman Lindsay Street in Conder about 5.10pm.
About 12.05am on Saturday, December 3, police were driving along Ginninderra Drive near Lyneham when they observed a silver Ford Falcon travelling at speed. The driver, a 41-year-old Bruce man, was pulled over and returned a positive reading for alcohol. He was taken to the City Police Station where he recorded 0.203 alcohol content. The man has five previous convictions for drink driving and he was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court next year charged with drink driving and excessive speed.
