Optical Eyes is a Melbourne based collaborative multi art group directed by visual artist Emily O’Brien. Optical Eyes first appeared in 2008 at Rear View Gallery and has since performed for Electro fringe and Next Wave festivals and played along side and collaborated with John Kilduf (USA), Snawklor (MELB), Rachel Jesse Rae(MELB) Olle Holmberg (SWEDEN) and Shaun South (SYD/MLB) to name but a few. The all new show at CCAS Gorman House on July 8th will see an exciting collaboration with video artist Tim Dwyer (CBR/MLB). Optical eyes will create layers of sound, projections, lighting, installation and performance to invoke a psychedelic “flash back.” It is worth noting here that the show is not suitable for anyone who has ever suffered from seizures!

Matthew Brown is a Tasmanian visual artist, musician and composer. He is best known for his solo work and his work with avant-rock group Zond. Matthews live performances consist of a minimalist psychedelia emerging from an array of synthesizers and self built instruments.
Horse MacGyver is internationally praised for his blend of electronic doom and industrial hip hop hidden within clever pop music. His live performance is like witnessing an ejection of psychic symptoms in a manner surprisingly engaging whilst sounding like house music being played on a battery drained walkman.
Luke Penders is well known for his sound installation and performance work. Canberra based, his influences draw from two main sources, occurrences in daily life and an interest in the process and outcomes when combining old technology with new technology. He primarily works with sound, but also everyday objects and materials, constructing faux realities exploring connections between technology and objects and also interaction between artist and audience through installation.
Optical Eyes is where madness lies. It is a psychedelic experience and a journey to new realms of consciousness. The scope and content of the Optical Eyes experience is limitless, but its characteristic features are the transcendence of pataphysical concepts, of space-time dimensions, kaleidoscopic and surrealistic subject matter and of the ego or identity.
Through an eclectic performance akin to a lurid apocalypse, Optical Eyes promotes it’s anti-message through obnoxious sound, hypnotising illusions, projections and various other extravagances.
In collaboration with Tim Dwyer, excessive projections will add to the visual overload with a barrage of utopian noise and sound provided by Matthew Brown, Horse Macgyver and Luke Penders.
Optical Eyes is an experience of heaven or hell impelling you to grasp one or flee the other. Do not be afraid of the Optical eyes psychedelic experience, at the very worst you will end up the same person who entered the experience.
