Origin madness reaches the Assembly

CityNews’ Jorian Gardner informs me he’s livening up proceedings in the Legislative Assembly with a State of Origin theme.

Apparently Amanda Bresnan is mad keen Queensland fan, but if they lose she’s willing to don the NSW Blue on the floor of the Assembly. Brendan Smyth is, according to Jorian, the other side of the bet.

Well, I doubt Amanda will be wearing blue today!

Yeah – okay Ant, I decided to watch the first 5 minutes for their humble apology, watched the whole show and laughed a lot. I am happy to admit that I was wrong. They are back (thank god) in form, for the first time this season. As always, they were at their most amusing when doing what they do best – targeting Aussie pollies, and lets face it, KRudd gives PLENTY of worthy ammunition! I felt like they tried extra hard to redeem themselves last night ….

Where are they when the Brumbies play NSW or QLD? Now having the various assemblies/parliaments wearing opposing states jumpers when they lose at Rugby may provide some interest.

Only in the ACT. Elsewhere no-one gives a rats about Rugby.

They still think we care!

Well-put. I cringed and waved my eyebrows when I read the article, what a self-obsessed bunch of poo poo heads. And I guess this boring match will mess up the TV tonight. Well, The Chaser are back tonight so that’s something.

One day the Chaser clowns will pull a stunt on the wrong person. I will pay to see them get their collective juvenile heads punched in on camera.

Howard well and truly put them in their place, something they conveniently never put to air

I ask this as a serious inquiry from an AFL-state immigrant… does the ACT give a rat’s proverbial about State of Origin? If so, why?

Bradley Clyde (one of the best if not THE best ever Origin player), Ricky Stuart, David Furner, Laurie Daley.

There’s some names that might help clear it up for you

Heh. The Chaser were in FINE form tonight. With any luck those screeching about “that” sketch stopped watching them…. yeah, right, NOT.

As for the Foopball, is that sport or a scripted performance that’s all about money?

Note to relevant staffer: Rebel Sport is the most convenient option.

agreed, oyster, chaser were a product of the howard regime and died with him…

and as for the topic, the act’s mla represents the people of the act. are they involved in this match? so why the engagement in the place of representation? appalling, i may not vote for anyone next time.

Off topic, but what the hell. I (and I suspect many others) won’t be watching the Chaser again. Inappropriate cancer-kids and incest ‘humour’ aside, they have really lost their comedic mojo this season – I don’t think I’ve actually laughed once through the last three episodes. Bring back Gruen Transfer I say!

The Chasers lost its relevance as soon as John Howard lost the 2007 election. The Chasers were dependent on the mocking and ridicule of Howard and his ministers (APEC, etc) and sending up the moralistic Hillsong religious values of the Howard era, now that he is gone there is no point in The Chasers going through the motions anymore.

I’ve always thought the chaser team were a bunch of squeezers. Back on topic, I didn’t read the article but I do support Queensland in the origin. Go the Maroons.

When a third-party gets involved in a NSW/QLD debate it becomes boring. May as well just dress-up as the referee.

Chaser?….excellent.
Thanks Ant

The City News? Isn’t this the so-called “newspaper” which makes up quotes and attributes them to “Labor insiders” or other unnamed sources?

Yes,
because they are the three best quality football games of the year.

…or they could do some work?

Well, former queenslanders and NS Welsh care, and there’s rather a lot of them.
