TAMS are letting people know they’re doing a ranger guided walk of the Orroral Valley:

Enjoy wildflowers and wildlife and experience cultural history with stories of European pioneers and the space age on a ranger guided walk along the Orroral Valley Heritage Trail this Sunday, 10 November 2013.

“In the six kilometre guided walk from the tracking station to the campground there is so much toexplore,” said Brett McNamara, Manager of Regional Operations, National Parks and Catchments.

“Right from the start there is a piece of history to uncover with the Orroral Valley Tracking Station which was one of three tracking stations in the ACT supporting NASA’s moon missions. Although it was decommissioned in 1982, tangible remnants of the station can still be seen today.

“The Orroral Homestead is another artefact you will pass on the heritage trail. With over 140 years of history in its timeline, it is one of the most interesting relics in Namadgi and also the oldest structure within the park. After all this time, evidence of early pastoral life still remains at the site.

“Please wear sturdy footwear and, with the weather warming up, it is essential that you bring a hat, water and sunscreen.

“You might also like to bring along some lunch and enjoy a relaxing picnic at the Orroral Campground at the end of the walk.”

Bookings are essential and can be made by calling the Namadgi Visitor Centre on 6207 2900.

The walk is from 1am to 1pm this Sunday 10 November.

12 hrs for 6 km?

Maybe they meant to write “from 11am” – that would be a nice easy 3km/h allowing for an easy stroll or a steady pace over difficult terrain.

It looks like there is a typo on RiotACT’s post. The event commences at 10 am, although a 1 am start time might be interesting. It is a three hour walk.

A three hour cruisey walk perhaps? Will Ginger be there?

The drive out there is a lot of fun too. Shame it’s supposed to rain all weekend.
