The Office of Regulatory Services is going to town on the landscaper Todd Daly:

Acting ACT Commissioner for Fair Trading, Jon Quiggin, is warning the ACT public to refrain from doing business with landscaper and builder, Mr Todd Daly, who has been taking deposits for landscaping jobs but not completing the work.

“This is a serious matter and the behaviour of this individual is simply not acceptable,” Mr Quiggin said.

“ACT residents deserve to be warned about the alleged conduct of Mr Daly before he can cause further financial harm,” he said.

“The Office of Regulatory Services (ORS) has received five complaints regarding Mr Daly, trading as All Rock Landscapes and Constructions. Each complaint involves Mr Daly allegedly taking large deposits for landscaping services that he has either not performed or has failed to complete.

“The ORS is investigating Mr Daly’s alleged contraventions of the Australian Consumer Law and has made several attempts to contact him regarding the complaints, but has so far not received a response.

Todd’s left me with a rock retaining wall 90% complete. Looks like his MO is to ask 50% or more of the cost upfront, ask for more of it as he goes along (claiming he needs to pay his subcontractors), and then gives you a call to tell you ‘it’s all done’, and asking for final payment. A rookie mistake on my part which I’ve since found is not the norm when dealing with tradies.
Having spoke to him a few times, I think it’s his ambition is bigger than his capability. His subbies did a good job, but they never got anything done when he was on site because he would just talk with them for hours.

Yes and he also has posted an ad asking for investors to invest $20,000 in his business, and I did meet with him twice to discuss the proposition and was about to invest until I saw the warning on TV… Saved myself a $20,000 loss…
