Our very own WIN News makes it onto Media Watch

Last night was not a good one for our friends at WIN News.

They were Media Watch’s Front Page story for their inability to understand a simple joke being used by the Lifesavers to raise awareness of the risks of drowning.

Despite not giving their reporter James Goodwin enough time to cover the event properly and realise the joke WIN were blaming the lifesavers in their pathetic explanation for the cockup:

“The Royal Life Saving Society of the ACT has apologised for misleading the Canberra community over a fictitious proposal to redevelop Yarralumla Beach. Executive Officer Peter Castle today admitted the story was a bizarre, some would say irresponsible and stupid, stunt to try and raise awareness of drownings.

WIN News, significantly dumber than 2CC.

If we are going to have underwater big brother, can I be one of the people who holds the housemates under until they stop talking?

Yes, Christine is very cute!

I’d let her do my washing and ironing anytime! 🙂

oh yeah, she’s hot.

is she hot??

“There is one decent journo on Win news. It’s a girl, can’t remember her name, but her knowledge of correct english is impressive. There was a time when most journos had this knowledge, but those days are gone.”

Christine Wallace?

There is one decent journo on Win news. It’s a girl, can’t remember her name, but her knowledge of correct english is impressive. There was a time when most journos had this knowledge, but those days are gone.

Yeah, they sure do … just before the carving knife comes out.

you know that crazy chicks go off in bed..

AD, there is such a thing as too far: just close your eyes and imagine being in a confined space with CC and the Head of the CIT.

See, not a pretty picture!

James-T-Kirk3:54 pm 16 Aug 06

WTF is Win news. What foxtel channel is it on?

Mr Evil – repeat after me..

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO FAR

although the fact that you want see bonfire tied and gagged is a little disturbing!!

Yeah, maybe I took that idea just a little too far.

What I really would like to see is Bonfire tied up and gagged in a room filled with really enthusiastic and sweaty recumbant cyclists. 🙂

Whoah there, Mr Evil. I’m not standing anywhere near that. I’d probably lose an arm.

I reckon that if Bonfire’s gonna pike out, then in his place should be the Head of the CIT!

It’s sperm bank time, then, Bonfire

well based on that scenario, id prefer to love from afar!

That is some kinky shit, Mr Evil.

I’m in.

An underwater Mr Shab vs Bonfire love-in? Throw in Crazy Chester just to liven things up!

At the risk of this becoming awfully homoerotic, I’d say the same of myself

Absent Diane12:50 pm 16 Aug 06

so you are a softhead?

im a lover not a fighter.

Absent Diane12:39 pm 16 Aug 06

and the famed mr shab v bonfire showdown.

Absent Diane12:18 pm 16 Aug 06

so yous guys mean they aren’t gonna have an underwater big brother… 😛

I think is was a very clever idea, and (as long as people hang around all the way through) does no harm. Did anyone from here go?

Having been to local press launches where no media turns up, it is very demoralising, and I can understand the society looking for creative new ways to get people to show up.

When I saw this news item I thought it was serious too! Let’s face it; it doesn’t sound that stupid when compared to some of the serious proposals the seem to pop up in Canberra i.e. “Supersonic” Busway, SIEV-X Memorial.

Yeah, the connection does seem to be missing somewhere. But it still doesn’t excuse massively innacurate reporting of it.

I don’t get the connection between the stunt and ‘raising awareness of drownings’ – but then, I’ve only just emerged from a bed of leaves under the house (my place of winter hibernation)…

Well said Thumper.

The most shameful thing here were the lies told to cover themselves. Being dumb and/or under-resourced is one thing, being an unreliable source of information is quite frankly a little concerning, even for a local service. Makes me think – has this happened before?

Absent Diane9:03 am 16 Aug 06

man I am glad I don’t watch free to air tevelision

It is sad that Canberra media doesn’t even pretend to do proper investigative journalism anymore. This is one reason why the local pollies can just gloss over things.
