@One – What on earth are you talking about? All I got from your post was “My Government is out to get me, my union is out to get me.” Are you trolling?

Its not to educate at all. This minister Government political party is simply after more money from long service leave schemes where both NSW and ACT refuse to payout workers entitlements. If this helps one person not be ripped off then my life was worth it.

Take great note of ‘worker’ as your not one after being bashed, injured, or bullied by Union thugs – If your dead then Long Service will refund your money after someone pays a very expensive lawiers fees set by the same ALP Governments.

NSW will say, oh you live in the ACT contact the ACT Long service leave

ACT will say, oh you worked last or more in NSW so contact the NSW Long service leave

BOTH IN THE END WILL REFUSE TO PAY ANY ENTITLEMENT

BOTH REGARD WORKERS AS SCUM THAT NEEDS TO BE ABUSED!

If you have requested your entitlement then your current employer in another industry will get a bill for a time that you have not worked in the industry.

Long Service and scams like fake trades because its just another tax on people who are forced out of the industry by drunks, injury or other causes by the same Government and its ministers that invent BS trades as they go.

(many of those so called trades are taught in schools so some Union guy could get another coloured card without ever working 1 day – unlike the people that spend 4 years getting a trade to then work for the same lazy Union thugs who make sure the trade being taught is next to a worthless bit of paper. The Union thugs know they can not be “competitive” in the real workforce)

At election time the long service administration pass the hat around for donations to help their working rights at taking another persons life.

I can relate to your sentiment (as expressed in your comment, not your OP), but a handful of schools getting these benefits is better than none, and it makes room for the kind of cultural shift that’s needed in the system.

I suspect that CIT and UC may not have the capacity to engage with all schools to the same depth that these deals allow. It is possible that if these deals are successful more funding may become available to extend them, but I can’t see more funds becoming available without a pilot.

Of course, there is the possibility that the intention of government is that certain schools will become academia-focused and others will become trade-focused. I doubt this is the case (because the opposite is reflected in this discussion paper), but if it were, I’d join your bandwagon and shout them down too!

And people from the outer suburbs walking to CIT is also a good idea. It gives them time to have a long, hard think.

Johnboy, are you just opposed to schools working with organisations that aren’t schools, or are you more specifically opposed to young people being provided with information about tertiary and career options? You seem to be opposing just about anything to do with either lately.

And what the heck is “vocational tracking”? The media release is talking about the development of career-minded young people who are aware of their options. It’s never too early to do that.

If there was any suggestion that young people would be coerced in one direction or another, I’d be with you, but the only evidence of that is the selection of specific schools. This isn’t really enough to make such a threat real. Especially when all the schools mentioned in both the UC partnership and the CIT partnership so far fall 10-15 minutes from Civic.

ACT Labor has joined with Federal Labor? I though that this was a government initiative, not a Labor party initiative? If it is a Labor initiative it should be coming from party funds, not out of the DET budget.
