Outrage at poor sports screening decision

Does anyone know where the Carlton v Essendon game is being shown LIVE on a big screen at a pub or club this Sunday at 2pm?

It is a pay per view Foxtel game and it was with serious outrage that I read the reply I received from my usual footy viewing haunt, the Ainslie Football Club this morning – telling me that they were only showing the REPLAY at 7:30pm! What are they showing at the time Carlton v Essendon (2 of the best supported and fervently followed clubs in the AFL) in on – Swans v Melbourne *yawn fall over dead from boredom*!!!! A game which is being played at Manuka Oval so anyone remotely interested in watching it (and I guarantee this dull game will be undersold) will actually be going to!!! Shame on you AFC.

Please please please can someone tell me where I can go to see the almighty Blues crush the skanky Bombers – LIVE.

I don’t give a crap about football on TV, there seems to be at least one night per week which is completly ruined by various sorts of football and you have to watch DVDs (or even SBS), BUT this is a very amusing thread I must say.

I hope you weren’t watching SBS this morning, haha.

I was, suck on that Liverpool.

sorry reprobate, i will start a fascinating thread next time about how crap canberra radio is and wah wah wah about that instead rather than plugging in my mp3 player and choosing my own music shall i?

What channel does the AFC show the men’s sports on? Sounds like their Fox is dedicated to a girl’s game

You prefer sticking your head up another man’s arse I see, haha.

Holden Caulfield11:34 pm 08 Apr 09

I’d say they’re doing it in honour of old boy James Hird. The Bombers are going to get fking smashed, hahahahahahahaha!

GO BLUES!

Wow, you hardly had time to set the drag before you got a strike. Keep playing, I’m sure you will land it.

But I don’t think you are going to be scoring any records at the weigh-in with what you have hooked. Quite a light-weight I think.

Yeah, because girls can’t play sport.

What kind of territory have we waded into now, VG?

Gold VG.

But seriously, it sounds as if there’s at least 2 people annoyed by the lack of coverage of this particular *cough* ‘sport’ so nothing short of a Royal Commission into this matter will be satisfactory.

I can’t believe they would show a team that has an affiliation with Canberra, over two Melbourne teams. The AFC really could have done with the $50 all those Carlton and Essendon supporters would have brought into the club.

I’m truly shocked.

totally an odd and unbusinesslike choice – why screen a game which people can simply watch on free to air tv in the comfort of their own homes??? the carlton v essendon game is only screened live on foxtel – and even then you need the sports package added to your foxtel subscription to see it – so way more fans are ‘forced’ to venues screening fox sports game to see their team play.

not to mention carlton and essendon fans are far more passionate about their teams than fairweather swans and brisbane (ok so maybe not so much brisbane) supporters – and far more likely to piss the afternoon and night away aside from just watching the footy game itself. ainslie football club obviously doesn’t care that much about making money it would appear???

rant rant rant.

Pretty rubbish decision by AFC there

would you believe the AFC are being shitecakes again this year with the exact same game???? stupid swans FTA game being shown on their afl-dedicated big screen instead of the carlton-essendon game!! wtf!!!

GROUNDHOG DAY!

BOO TO THE AFC!!!!

The Ainslie are showing the Collingwood/Footscray game Sunday arvo, as well as the Swans/Demons (lord knows why!)
The Essendon/Carlton game is still planned as a delayed broadcast from 7.30pm Sunday.

holden, i emailed the foxtel main event people yesterday in vain hope of good news – but my hopes dashed cruelly to the ground this morning as i read the reply from them saying the afl website had incorrect info on it. *sob*

i have written an angry email to the afl broadcasting people and foxtel about the injustice of it all. not expecting any reply from them. sigh.

Well, this puts an end to my ant is Mark Carmody theory. Sure, Carmody sometimes stumbles over his words, but he a) has a job, b) seems to have a full set of teeth and c) doesn’t spit on Virginia when he finishes his weather report. Damn!

tori, I checked the Foxtel EPG for 518 on Sunday afternoon and there’s repeats of a Jeff Fenech doco call “I love youse all”, of course.

I live in hope that the game will be on 518, but I don’t expect it will be.

This is Collingwood’s year. They’re just lulling Carlton into a false sense of security then they’ll murder them at the final. As for Geelong, huh, a fluke.

Deadmandrinking7:10 pm 19 Jun 08

You are my new friend ant.

Collingwood forever.

Wow. What are you whinning about??

The vast majority of Canberran’s dont give a rats about the AFL. If they did it would be broadcast live. Dont try and argue that the ACT loves AFL, if they did Fox would know about it and broadcast it.

Thats the reason its not live. No one in the ACT wants to watch it…

Growling Ferret11:30 am 19 Jun 08

Tori

It won’t be on. Accept your fate as listening to it via afl.com.au

i am on the verge of a rage blackout if i find out this game seriously is not going to be broadcast live here

Growling Ferret10:57 am 19 Jun 08

“IIRC Eastlakes has been able to show the LIVE Friday night broadcasts, which are shown via 518???

The local AFL clubs may have organised this deal with Foxtel. I know that the Irish Club and a couple of others I have been to were unable to show the live Friday game on 518.

You are also right re: the Sunday game. No Sunday games have been on 518 this year, just Friday night and Saturday night where the host broadcaster has it on delay.

Missing a general round clash is nothing compared to Primes decision last year to delay the Collingwood vs Geelong Prelim Final – despite a 7:40 start, it was not shown on Prime until after Better Homes at 8:30. That was the ultimate ratbag broadcasting decision!

Affirmative Action Man10:31 am 19 Jun 08

The problem lies with those pharkwits at the AFL. Every time they do the TV deals they go for the $$$ instead of ensuring the best coverage.

So ACT/NSW/Qld get crap coverage each time.

Every time the Swans play on Sunday in ACT/NSW we get the Swans game on free to air AND on Foxtel.

And those morons want to get a second team in Sydney – fair dinkum could not organise a Pyss up in the proverbial.

holden – surely you jest re: foxtel not actually showing it on 518!??! there is no way in hell a game at the G is not being shown by any media outlet. and yes i nearly had stroke watching the game on sunday – how awesome was it!!!! take it pies!!

Sadly, I don’t jest. I’ve not had a chance to confirm the Foxtel EPG myself, but will do so this afternoon when I get home. But I have read elsewhere that, despite the AFL website listing the game as being on 518, Foxtel, at this stage, suggests otherwise. To date, 518 has never been used for a Sunday afternoon game.

Also, as I said, the Carlton v Fremantle game, played on a Saturday afternoon FFS, had no live television at all. So if the Essendon v Carlton game is not televised live it will not be a huge shock, just mighty fking disappointing.

As I understand it the game will be replayed on Foxtel after their twilight game, with the replay starting at 7:30pm.

ant – if carlton are ‘poofs’ and we beat collingwood both times this season, what does this make collingwood i wonder? hmmmmm. i said it before and i’ll say it again – take it pies.

yeah, right ant. like, as if.

…although…

I have checked the broadcast schedule, and notice that its claimed the game will be on 518 Main Event – this has not happened for any other Sunday games in 2008, so I’d assumed it wasn’t going to happen here either.

Most pubs and clubs claim they can’t show games on 518 anyway

Growling Ferret8:48 am 19 Jun 08

Sad news for you – the match won’t be live on any channel in the ACT. No 518, nowhere.

In theory it is the Channel 7 match and should be on Prime, but the Swans get priority in Canberra so the game won’t be shown here until the replay on Fox, probably at 7:30 or so.

Prime and Fox 1 will both show the Swans game (it happens every time the Swans play at 1pm), and the twilight game is Collingwood vs the Bulldogs on Fox Sports.

The only place you will hear the game is live on the net listening to the streamed commentary linked off afl.com.au

You can come watch it with me….I’ll be at the game….. HA HA HA

What DMD said! Who gives a bugger? I mean, really. Carlton poofs (named after horrible beer) vs those fashion victims Essendon? Blah.

Collingwood for the cup this year. Flog those pretenders from Geelong.

Woody: Tell us what you really think ! Nice come back by the way.

like anyone cares! c’arna cats! ; ) [and just as long as fukcing crows lose…

ainslie footyclub not showing it? i thought all games were televised somewhere… they’ve got a trillion screens and i bet they’ll have it on if its on. or eastlakes, as realityskin astutely mentions.

what i find sux is realfooty’s purportedly ‘live’ score updates stay fixed at 4th quarter 21 mins for fukcing hours after the game, even when the age has a report about the game’s outcome. ‘live’ schmive! sux.

anyway, s’all good ’cause the cats will go back to back this year, so look away now…

Please please please can someone tell me where I can go to see the almighty Blues

Melbourne. Please stay there, and take all your aerial ping-pong p00fta mates with you. 😛

IT’S ALL GOOD PEOPLE!! join me at the AFC on sunday – AFC has come round to my way of thinking and have changed their big screen scheduling. they are showing the pay per view live game!! HOORAY!

holden – surely you jest re: foxtel not actually showing it on 518!??! there is no way in hell a game at the G is not being shown by any media outlet. and yes i nearly had stroke watching the game on sunday – how awesome was it!!!! take it pies!!

Holden Caulfield6:03 pm 18 Jun 08

Oh, and how bug was the smile on your face when you walked into work this Monday? I’ve hardly stopped grinning, haha!

Holden Caulfield6:02 pm 18 Jun 08

toriness, sorry to disappoint you even further, but my understanding is that the game will not be shown live on Foxtel at all. The AFL website lists the game as being on Foxtel’s Channel 518, but I believe if you use Foxtel’s EPG the game is not listed for Sunday afternoon.

Pardon the Kangaroos pun, but join in the chorus and vent your spleen:

To make matters worse, FoxSports1 and Prime will be showing the same game live on Sunday afternoon. Yes, that’s right, two stations in Canberra will be showing the same game at the same time. Which game you ask? Well, naturally that would be the game that is actually being played in Canberra this weekend — Melbourne v Sydney.

FFS!

ACT and NSW get the Sydney matches whenever they are on. Sucks pretty bad when Swans are on free to air and foxtel yet my team isn’t even being shown on any.

This happens all the time and I bet no-one in the ACT is showing it. It’s a TV rights issue.

Fark it, I’m just going to drive down for the game!
