The ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service is currently responding to a grass fire burning at Oxley Hill.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire has been set at ADVICE.

The ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service has multiple units responding to the scene.

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service is working to extinguish a grass fire burning at Oxley Hill on Maurice Newman Circuit Oxley and Schonell Circuit.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire has been set at ADVICE.

ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service has multiple units on scene.

The fire is under control and burning in the direction of a small number of properties but is no threat at this time as the fire is moving very slowly and there are numerous firefighters on scene.

The ACT Ambulance Service advises people in the immediate area with breathing conditions to remain indoors.

ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service is contuining to work on extinguishing a grass fire burning at Oxley Hill in Tuggeranong.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire remains at ADVICE.

There is total of 16 units on scene including light units, medium tankers, heavy tankers, compressed air foam units (CAFS) and command vehicles.

The fire is under control and there is no threat to any properties at this time.

Firefighters are also taking the opportunity to allow the fire to burn out some areas as hazard reduction for nearby residents.

ACT Fire & Rescue recieved more than 100 Emergency Triple Zero (000) calls about the fire.

Many of these calls and comments on the ESA’s social media accounts referred to hearing an ‘explosion type of noise’.

The cause of the noise and fire are unknown at this time.

10:34 PM

The ACT Rural Fire Service is now completing mopping up at the scene of a grass fire at Oxley Hill in Tuggeranong.

ACT Fire & Rescue units have been sent back to station.

The scene has been handed over to ACT Policing to investigate the cause of the fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue confirmed they recieved a total of 242 Emergency Triple Zero (000) calls initially into the ESA Communications Centre about the fire.

The alarm was first raised at 9:15pm.

11:13 PM

ACT Policing is investigating a suspicious fire which occurred in Oxley at 9.15pm today (Monday December, 30).

ACT Emergency Services responded to several emergency calls and extinguished the blaze at approximately 11.00pm. ACT Policing patrols attended the site and assisted with road closures in several streets near the Oxley Hill park for the duration of the fire.

ACT Policing spoke with several witnesses on site and received reports of a loud explosive noise prior the fire.

Superintendent Brett Kidner said the fire could potentially have threatened property.

“We’re very lucky that this did not result in injury or damage to any property. During these hot and dry conditions, the community should be aware that even the smallest of sparks can spread quickly and have devastating results.”

Police are urging anyone who may have information regarding the incident and has not yet spoken with police to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131-444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
