What is it with these P Plate hoons these days??? do they just want to kill themselves and those around them???

Look at this gem, the guy has just gotten onto his P’s and decides the best way to celebrate is to go flying down the highway at 240km/h!!!!

I really wish the government would do something about this reckless behavior… they should change the age limit to obtain a licence to 21…

If I ever meet that guy i’d call him a jerk right to his face!!
I’m also considering sending this to A Current Affair, they seem to have the resources to find this person!

P Plate Bashing, guys? Really?
Wish people would stop pushing all P Platers into one “hoon” category. I am a P Plater and am getting sick and tired for copping abuse from “more experienced drivers” for doing the speed limit. I know there are a lot of idiot P Platers around, just look at Civic on a Friday night…But there are also a lot of careful P Plate drivers who know that being behind the wheel of a car is a privledge, rather than a right and who understand the damage that can be done if the car is not respected. Yes, I know that sounds like a cliche, ‘to respect the car’, but some of realise that there are consequences for our actions and doing dangerous things behind the wheel of a however many tonne block of metal can have the most serious consequences.

And might I mention that the abuse I got from one driver a few days ago, after tailgating me most of the way down Belconnen Way/Barry Drive, yelled at me and gave me the finger out the window and proceeded to go (I’m guessing) 80kmph or more in the 40kmph zone along Barry Drive, was rather disturbing. I can’t imagine how people can give “P Plater Hoons” such a bad rap when there are drivers of each level who are just as bad.

A fairly obvious giveaway, apart from the P plates, that there is a f#@kwit behind the wheel is the vehicle having been ‘lowered’ so that it is riding on the bump rubbers. ie, all springing has been removed.

This changes the suspension geometry to the point where a bump can cause the vehicle to instantly change lanes,(bump steer), and loads up the body in contact with the snub rubbers constantly, rather than once in a blue moon, stressing the immediate area. This will result in fatigue fractures to the body.

These vehicles would instantly fail the 100mm ground clearance test, in addition to their lethal suspension.

Perhaps a ‘lets watch out for’ for the traffic officers.

Your assertion that it is a genuine video is noted. However for it to be such, the cars this pretender was overtaking would have themselves been doing 180-200 km/hr.

Not to disparage Seouth Effriken drivers, mon, but the chances of thet would have been smaller than a bushman’s bank account.

I say fake, on the basis of the apparent overtaking speed.

I’m from SA orig…. people have no dramas exceeding the 120km/h speedlimit on the highways…
a look at the road death tolls explains all….

Thx everyone for the kind words 🙂

Here’s the video again since some ppl are keen on seeing it.. After the wonderful emails i received i thought i should put it back up.

Now if you must know, it is 100% true, the speedo was not tampered with or anything.
It was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa by a member of a local car club there. Yes he was speeding, the speed limit there is 120km/h. as someone posted up above the road markings are all different compared to the highway here. also the car is a Fiat Uno Turbo… A car which was never ever sold in Australia.

It was nice to see it got posted up all over the show… 🙂
Sorry to say tho, I dont do shit like this on public roads, Thats why I hav a race car.

Catcha later 😉

Retrospective abortions would be highly useful in many cases.

Just to expand on my comment #4 to make that kind of speed with the amount of boost indicated would produce massive temperature, but if it is real I want the name of his engineer for the Jag project. Messing with the speedo is as easy as with a cable drive just change the drive gear or electronic the sender unit. That would explain why the odometer appears to be in step with the speedometer. The vid has been removed maybe because of three reasons, 1 its real and the driver is worried about being fined for being a nob, or 2 its faked and he’s worried about been called a nob either way there is a television programme screaming for new talent its called Tool Academy.Or 3 maybe utube has developed a conscience. Having said all that though if he was to kill my wife and kids for his fun I would make his experience on this planet most horrid.

urchin: The odometer runs off the speedometer – if the speedo is out of calibration, then so is the odomoeter.

There are restrictions for motocyclists on L or P plates why not cars?

I do love this argument,, it seems to be all the rage in the media and nanny-staters, but it’s flawed.

Power restrictions do nothing – if I want to go 150km/h, I’ll go 150km/h no matter how powerful my vehicle is (unless it’s a 3 cyl Charade that literally won’t get there – good luck passing, then enforcing that all P platers are required to drive Charades). Difference being, most of the high powered (stock) cars also have better brakes, handling and performance in general to help ‘counter’ the power ratio. It’s much easier to handle a stock car with a bigger engine than a shitbox modded by a dumbarse kid to have the same power.

If you want to see evidence that neither passenger OR power restrictions on P platers work – have a look at NSW, count how many fatalities have occured SINCE they introduced the restrictions and how many were people actually abiding by the restrictions. It’s not a deterrant, it just makes people’s choice to break the law easier.

dammit the video has been ‘removed by user’. i guess the hero realised he is a tool.

If the moran wants to reach high speeds go on a race track! I hope they catch him, there have been enough deaths on the roads this year.

to those who doubt the speed, looking at the odometer he seems to do 1 km in 15 secs, which comes to 240 km/hour. using the same name as his facebook page is probably not the smartest thing in the world, though. pretty easy for the cops to track him down if they so desire–where’s the traffic cop giving out helpful hints on not cutting off busses and so on?

troll-sniffer10:53 pm 12 Feb 10

Well if that little plik was doing 240 kliks I can ride my pushie uphill at 60 km/hr. Didn’t there used to be fishermen jokes about strange measuring devices? This guys speedo musta been bought at da bait and tackle shop methinks.

All gone im guessing.

MartyMcFly,

Im pro-abotion, I think a fetus should legally be able to be aborted anywhere between conception and 25 years of age, there problem solved.

With a little luck these fools will end up aborting them selves.

Seroiusly though

The only problem is the innocent people that may be killed or injured in the process.

Im all for crushing their cars and banning them from driving for life.

There are restrictions for motocyclists on L or P plates why not cars?

Blaringmike, an IP address is not a unique identifier, he could have easily uploaded that from a net cafe, a public library or even the carpark of his local McDonalds. If he was at home, he could have been using TOR or a secure VPN or any number of other methods of IP address/location masking. (Not that someone dumb enough to do 240km/h while using one hand to operate a camera would take such precautions. He seems dumb enough to have put his name to his other videos.)

I’d suggest that Bevan Leigh may actually be Bevan-Leigh Hussey, judging by his facebook profile pic.

I agree and also when the camera comes back onto the road the vehicle is tavelling at “200km/h” but slowly overtakes vehicles that are doing presumably the speed limit of 100 or 110. I think its a doctored speedo. I have driven at over 160km/h in Germany and when you pqass cars doing a 100 you pretty much fly by.

Personally, my opinion is people like this guy are going to drive like that no matter how old they are. A wanker is a wanker whether they’re 17 and just on their P’s or 30 and trying to be young again. Just like a wanker is a wanker no matter what mode of transport they take.

Have a look on the road, you’ll see just as many (if not more) ‘hoons’ without P plates on that you will with P plates. The only difference being the oldies aren’t as stupid as this idiot to post footage on YouTube (usually because they don’t know how to work the technology or they’re just that tiny bit wiser).

As for raising the minimum driving age – just as silly of a suggestion.

Raising the age will just mean there will be more people aged 17 to 21 driving illegally, with less change of being caught (as a P plate on a car is like a flashing red light screaming PULL ME OVER). Also, the people driving illegally wont have received any of the education or training currently provided to drivers at the age of 17, meaning there will be untrained, misguided, ‘young hoons’ instead of misguided ‘young hoons’.

Why punish the majority of young adults due to some wankers taking themselves out on poles? Darwin at it’s best.

Do you also want to raise the drinking age to curb alcohol fuelled violence? Or is this the only nanny-state suggestion you support?

Too true – This brings to light the actual reality that EVIDENCE is needed to convict anybody.

Just because the speedo says something DOES NOT MEAN that the speed is correct. The idiot could have moved the dial to show off…

Keep it real people….

Seriously, as much as I love a spirited drive once in a while, this guy is a total f***wit!! all he’s going to do it have an accident and end up killing himself and innocent people, or at least be ina wheelchair for the rest of his life!!

If you ask me this is the markings of a good fake. Look at the change in tacometer half way through –if it was a gear change why didn’t the speedo reflect (and engine sound) that. Secondly, the road from Sydney to Canberra doesn’t have single white centre lines. Thirdly, I am impressed that he was able to steer and take video footage at the same time, must have used knees… Lastly, in the words of ck ‘yawn’.

I hope he doesn’t see this thread. He’ll be losing sleep over being called a jerk, to his face even!

What a load of crap. Unless the cars being overtaken were doing about 200km/h then there is no way in the world this idiot is doing 240.

Speed limit all new vehicles to 130kmh. There is no reason not to. If you want to go fast then you buy the race track only model, not road registrable.

wishuwell said :

I spotted this too, and thought the same, but from my understanding of cars, this could have been done when the cars oil/water were still cold… which in itself is pretty bad for the engine. judging by what this guy is doing i wouldnt put it past him not waiting till the engine was up to operating temp

Well, young Bevan must be loaded, as the fine for over 45kmh over the limit is $1744, or $2200 if it goes to Court. Also, instantaneous roadside loss of licence for six months. I can think of better things to do with my money.

Also seems from the video that the driver was doing the recording himself. Hmmm, just a hint, might be better to have hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at that speed, Bevan.

Meh, they’ll slip up and be caught, they always are…

You can tell they are not too bright, they break the law and then post up the evidence online for the police to see…

“I really wish the government would do something about this reckless behavior… they should change the age limit to obtain a licence to 21…”

OR the parent’s can take responsibility for their children. I remember my first car (I had no choice in what car I was to get) was lucky to get to 100km/h on the highway going downhill with the wind behind me! The gov can’t be expected to raise kids just because parents are too lazy to enforce their own vehicle restrictions and/or curfews. Anyone else getting sick of everyone expecting the gov to do everything for us? Last time I checked we were a ‘free country’ full of ‘free thinking individuals’ or am I behind the times yet again?

I tend to agree with the oil pressure and water statement. Unless he’s already blown the engine. But there’s no sign of that.

Could be a “tampered speedo” But then again if it it was just a short burst of speed the water and oil would not show much difference. I also note that the taco is at what should be “red lined” But then I could be wrong.

You gota be a “deefa” to go at that speed and video it at the same time. A lot can happen in a second doing 240kmh.

And given the mechanical condition of the average P plater’s ride, I’d be a bit concerned about the whole vehicle hanging together at 240 kn/h.

Those SupaCheap rear spoilers aren’t made to handle that kind of speed, much less the cheapo alloys and tyres.

Dont youtube record the IP of ppl making uploads? Surely the ACT police can request this information and find this fool before its too late. His obviously a young kid who needs a kick up the butt before he kills someone with his sports (turbo) car.

Very low oil pressure, very low water temp for that type of speed doesn’t seem to be going as fast as speedo shows.

I wonder if Google routinely supply details of Utube account holders to police? but perhaps they have other means to track end users.

According to the bloke’s youtube profile, he’s 26.

Shifting the driving age to 21 will do very little to prevent idiots like this.

Why? Over confidence. Simple.

The majority of us grow up with parents who, from the day we’re born, have already been driving for several years. The majority of surveys taken regarding driver confidence show, the vast majority of drivers believe they are above average to excellent drivers.

equals

The vast majority of children/teenagers/young adults, grow up being a passenger in a car with a driver who cannot be questioned. This parental driver is to be looked up to, always pointing out the flaws of other road users, whilst his/her similar/identical/worse flaws go unchecked.

I don’t think I’ve said majority enough 🙂

According to our parents, there are two types of drivers on the road. There are the morons we catch up to. These people are driving to slowly and must be overtaken ASAP. There are the idiots who catch up to us. These people are driving too fast and for some reason always want to overtake us ASAP.

Then there are the police. Despite the fact that almost every driver is likely to severely bend, or blatantly break at least one rule every day, we’re all incredibly lucky not to get caught most days. But that one sneaky police officer, once every few years, hiding at the bottom of a hill, hiding in an unmarked car… he’s an unreasonable bastard. How dare he pull over and criticize such a perfect driver for what seems a minor issue when there are so many morons and idiots on the road? He must be trying to make quota.

Bottom line, most young drivers have been a passenger in a car for many years, where very little negative feedback is given to their idol driver. Sure one parent will always be a better driver than the other (for me it was my mother who drummed into us that dad was a horrendous driver because he let his speed wander… meanwhile she had, and still has, no issue with sitting <10 metres from the back of another car at 100km/h+). In our minds, though, subconsciously, we take after the better parent.

We can educate new drivers all we like, for many it will do good. For the rest though, after watching their confident and perfect parent(s) drive for the better part of 17 years, no amount of education, scare campaigning, restrictions, nothing, will prepare them for the most dangerous task they're likely to ever undertake. They will go in headfirst, comfortable in the knowledge they've watched and learnt from the best driver in the business… their opinionated parent. They are comfortable that they, like Dad/Mum, know better than all the idiots and morons out there. Only experience will teach these particular drivers otherwise, and we can only hope such drivers don't kill themselves, or any of us in the process.
