This Saturday night Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens are playing host to their Sydney friends, Packwood and The Falls to celebrate the launch of Packwood’s impressive debut EP, and to use unnecessary amounts of candlelight for Earth Hour. Here are some things people have said about Packwood:

“One of the most interesting things I have heard in a while”
– Sean Magee, Abbey Road Studios

“There‘s a great sense of grandeur in this song [Longyearbyen]! The orchestral ending is full of wonder and awe. I’m inspired…!”
-Caroline Tran, triplej

That’s pretty good, eh? Packwood consists of a string quartet, fronted by a singer who plays banjo – how intriguing! His EP was recorded with a 50 piece orchestra. Was yours? I THINK NOT!

Here are some things people have said about Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens:

If Canberra isn’t already folk capital of this sunburned country, then Julia and her crew of misfits might just make it so. – Bleeding Ears.net

‘Canberra’s cover girl du jour, Julia Johnson…’ – Johnboy, The Riotact

wow!

The Front is always lovely and cosy, but we’ll be turning up the cosy-o-meter especially high for this show – if you like indie folk-pop-type-music, this is where you should go on Saturday night.

So:

Saturday March 31st, 8pm @ The Front. $10

Packwood + The Falls + Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens

gospeedygo, I will be shaving off my beard for the show. Also, ‘severe whimsy’ sounds like an amazing experience! -Julia

Is it a prerequisite for every folk singer to have a beard, scruffy clothing/hair and a look of severe whimsy when standing in front of a back drop of serene nature?
