Jason Dean started out working for a commercial cleaning company at the age of 18 and, with 12 years’ experience under his belt, he decided to take a huge leap and start his own business at the end of 2019.
Just a few months later the world was thrown into turmoil as the COVID-19 pandemic hit. But, while the advent of COVID-19 had a negative impact on many Canberra businesses, Jason’s new cleaning venture, Synergy Four Services, flourished.
Commercial cleaners were in hot demand and Jason’s team quickly grew from three to around 35 staff, servicing construction sites, businesses and even the drive-through COVID-19 testing facility at Kambah.
“I already had a number of clients, but then COVID happened after a couple of months of operation and really accelerated our business,” he said.
“We employed around 35 people, mainly casuals, and were kept busy cleaning construction sites twice a day all over Canberra to ensure they remained compliant in order to keep operating during the lockdowns.
“We audited our processes and implemented appropriate control measures and often had to suit-up to clean facilities where a COVID case had been reported.”
He said it was difficult at times to find employees to keep up with the huge demand which continued for two years.
When Jason and his wife Jaymie started their business, they had not expected it to take off like it did.
“It was a good time for us to start our business. Obviously COVID wasn’t a good thing but, for us, we saw it as an opportunity to expand our services to include specialist COVID cleaning and cold fogging services and, as a result, it really helped our business grow,” he added.
As life went back to pre-pandemic normal, Jason set about finding other areas to keep his staff employed.
“We started out doing just construction site cleaning, and have since branched out into commercial and residential cleaning,” he said.
“Our clients are always happy with the work we do because we’re responsive, professional and provide a high level of quality work. The nature of the Canberra market is such that maintaining a favourable word-of-mouth reputation is crucial and the effectiveness of doing that comes down to consistently providing exceptional customer service and quality work.
“My wife and I are really proud of the business and the team we have built.
“Everyone within our team has a really good attitude towards their day-to-day work output and it was a true testament to their dedication and hard work when we won two Canberra Local Business Awards for the most outstanding new business in 2021 and the most outstanding service and trade in 2022.
“We have a great team to work with which makes our workday more enjoyable and our job extremely rewarding.”
Jason and his team offer comprehensive construction site cleaning services and aim to ensure buildings are cleaned to the highest standards during any stage of construction.
“We’ve built a strong reputation as a trusted partner for local builders in Canberra,” he said.
“We have worked on a range of projects, from government and commercial contracts to large scale construction sites, and are experts when it comes to working with different stakeholders and contractors.”
They also provide cleaning services for offices, restaurants, shopfronts, aged care facilities, schools, industrial sites, galleries and data centres as well as presale, end-of-lease and residential construction cleaning services.
Synergy Four will soon launch another arm, providing fire restoration, water damage and mould removal services.
Jason and Jaymie are looking to keep growing their brand and have a team of highly vetted and qualified cleaners perfectly placed to take on even the largest projects.
