Panthers plotting to steal Campese

So the thrust of the article is that Penrith are considering axing six very marginal players to make a play for Campese? Not sure how this rates as news.

My mail is that the “source close to Campese” is actually his manager, Jim Banaghan, who is a notorious whinger. I certainly can’t imagine Campo describing an offer as “insulting”.

My guess is that the Raiders have offered around $300,000, Banaghan is demanding more like $500k, and they’ll eventually agree on something just under $400,000. Big bikkies, for sure, but Campo is worth it.

It would be interesting to know how many of the Rooster’s players did a bit of extra outside promotional work for the state’s major car dealerships. There are a lot of ways of boosting the salary of players.

The NRL isn’t concerned with making the situation fair for each club. Lack of even distribution of free to air TV games just one example.

40 free to air games in 2 and a bit years must boost the profile of players of Brisbane while Canberra and its players got 4. Also for the sponsors.

And there’s no need to ‘attract players to the ACT’, there’s plenty of talent (Dugan, Croker etc)coming up through the ranks and will stay to play with the likes of Campo and Tonguey.

They can build a team around Campese. Use his brilliance to attract players to the ACT, lets face it, nothing else will..

Masterful player with unlimited potential, doesnt seem to be the boozing type either.. imo if they didnt have him their record would be close to 0-5. especially in the Sharks game, it was all him.

Terry is without a doubt one of the best players in the NRL. He is carrying the Raiders at the moment. Its always a shame how the Raiders have such fantastic players but are never able to hold onto them for long enough to make a good run at the comp. In other news it looks like Michael Monaghan may be returning to the Raiders from the UK. Personally I’d rather see him back at the Sea Eagles but I guess its positive if you are a Raiders fan.
