Parking ANU style

anu parking

Chris ensured ANU is not neglected in our study of the parking habits of Canberrans:

After having a little giggle viewing recent “Parking ….. Style” pictures, i decided to share one that i came across in student parking at the ANU.

If there was one requirement of entrance for study at the ANU, it should be the ability to park……. unfortunately this is not a rare site, but a very common occurrence.

The parking situation at ANU is shameful. Ask almost anyone there (not those who live on campus and are provided with ample parking, but locals who actually need to drive there and compete with several thousand other non-residential students for a car park space), and they will tell you that is it a joke.

3…2…1…

public transport, riding, when I was a student I walked in bare feet carrying my desktop computer, soft youth, lake carpark and walk, carpool, got plenty of time, privilege not a right, try Sydney Uni.

Have I missed any?

Believe me, this photo is par for the course at the ANU. In fact, it’s above par – it may be a squeeze, but the owners of these 3 vehicles were actually able to find a park, unlike so many others.

It’s appalling that the ANU is spending students’ fees on advertising to attract more students (and revenue) to the institution, when they are completely unwilling to provide basic infrastructure such as car parking for those who already attend the university.

The university should be forced to deal with this problem. Students pay through the nose to attend university (okay, mostly in the future through HECS-HELP and the taxation system but that doesn’t diminish their financial obligations whatsoever), and they should be legally entitled to decent facilities such as adequate parking. Failing this, the university should be legally required to provide a disclosure statement in their advertising that informs prospective students of their grossly inadequate parking facilities (if you can even call their pathetic, dirt surfaced, potholed car parks that).

Gee, you’re going to struggle in the real world, aren’t you.

Touche, we all love a innuendo dont we? well maybe not poocockhead.

Yes it’s 3pm, Friday, and it’s first drinks at the pub(l)ic bar. If the wit wasn’t so huge I’d join in.

No point in beating around the bush lets get straight into it shall we?

I think we’re more in double entendre territory now.

A woman walked into a bar and asked for a double entendre.

So the barman gave her one.

She then thanked him and said you make a wonderful liquor!

Then she parked her car near Linguistics.

Where she received yet another tongue lashing!

That comment kinda lingers.

The worse thing is that there was plenty of parking at ANU in 2005, it was perfectly adequate. Since then ANU has built over surface parking year after year without making any attempt to replace it. The streets of Turner are lined with cars on most weekdays and I’d imagine that it must get on the nerves of the people who live there.

The problem is the carpark itself, not the “style” in which this particular one parks.

Anyone who has a DIRT carpark is lower than one who has narrowly-spaced lines. This is Australia, not Africa. We aren’t supposed to have dirt roads or carparks in the middle of the city.

What planet are you?

He’s not a planet, he’s one of the moons of Uranus…

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

I guess the pun-ditry was provoked by Chris’ own pun – “this is not a rare site” – or am I the only person to notice that he probably should have written “sight”?

Educational standards at ANU must be slipping.

IP

Smug parking at ANU to go with the overall smug attitudes of the University.

Academics may not have any sense of proportion but don’t they love to fill a tight slot!

Is it just me, or are most small/compact cars are driven by fat chicks? Just have a look at the next Ford Festiva or Hyundai Excel that pulls up next to you at the traffic lights and tell me I am wrong.

I suspect there are going to be two really p!ssed off fat chicks who won’t be able to get anywhere near their car doors today. In the rain too! My kingdom for an umbrella and some popcorn …

With no marked spaces, and no other spaces, what do you expect? People aren’t going to drive around for ages.

(With the assumption that there is more space to the left)

If people parked next to each other (starting from the edges), rather than all over the place, there would be very few gaps like this

its the two fords ganging up on the holden.

By ANU standards there’s room for another car in there…

And the blame lies with the car on the far left (pale gold Laser)
